TRUE!  Those look great!  Are the dynamics better on the vinyl?

Ha! That's a can of worms I will not open LOL.......I have my personal opinions. Anyhow BC&SL is a bit loud, pushed some...I have to say other than Nightmare, the rest of the album is really nice, especially The Count.

As far as SDOIT, its fantastic!! They did an excellent job on this one Clap

Absolutely beautiful Catcher! You've caught well! :)

Timeless music they create. You can always revisit and be impressed. I put on their first album WDADU the other day and I was blown away by Kevin' Moore's creatively on the keys/synths. Brilliant stuff. :)

To be 100% honest, I don't expect this album to be that good. I don't really have any reason to believe it is, apart from the fact that MM's drumming will be better than on ADTOE. According to early reviews that have surfaced since the listening party of the album, the band hasn't tried anything new with this album, and has a more commercial edge to it. I don't mind it being quite commercial; the band has proved that they can pull 'commercial' off well (Take the Time, Lie, Caught in a Web), but the commercial style that they've employed since they joined Roadrunner has failed to interest me that much. OTBOA was a good song though.
I just have a feeling that this will be 'just another album', nothing special. If this album is nothing special, I think that a lot of DT fans will start 'losing hope' for the band.
Hopefully I'm proven wrong though. The single on Monday will perhaps indicate whether I will be proven wrong or not.

Finally broke down and bought BC&SL for 9 bucks at lasers edge. They are having a huge sale in August.

I have most of the DT studio catalog but was missing this one. No Tot or FII either. And if someone would take Octavarium off my hands, it would no longer besmirch my collection.  But I do consider myself a fan.

I really do understand why you feel this way and I'm kind of thinking the same thing where by the new album won't be dramatically different from previous works, although I still that the upcoming album will be a quality listen just nothing really different. What can I say? I mean DT have provided so many bench marks in prog metal and added an extream level of diversity and technical playing to the genre itself over the last 15 years specifically.

We can't be overly spoiled with DT at this time in their career. They have touched upon so much where 'Difference' in prog metal from what they have already achieved, is gonna be difficult.

I will still buy their next album. I know the level of musicianship will be top notch and I can't wait to hear Mangini at his best with the band!

In the end with DT we will be treated to quality, not difference. ;)

I expect it to be good.  I have no expectations with regard to difference/innovativeness. I hope it's as good as ADTOE, but whatever happens, it's a DT album, I'm not complaining.  At least I think I can be pretty sure they won't return to their Systematic Chaos/BC&SL sound.

I really like Train of Thought very much, but you would have to be into the heavier side of Dream Theater to like it. However I would by no means want to get rid of Octavarium, so we may not be on the same channel anyway. As for Falling into Infinity, if you think about getting it, consider the option of looking for the Demos version of the album, for that one contains unaltered versions of some songs that were tempered with by the record company and they kind of ruined them, plus some songs that didn't make it to the final album that were kind of nice. You might just as well like it better than the final result.

Right on. Great enthusiasm. Oh and the album better be good or Fates Warning will steal the show! They are coming out with a new album a month after!

I can understand where he's coming from about Octavarian, I personally like it, but it's my least favorite of their post-SFAM albums.

For me their worst post-SFAM album would easily be BC+SL. Octavarium had a few weaker tracks (Never Enough, The Answer Lies Within) but it more than made up for them with the title track.

I kind of like the song, but I'm not a big fan of the mix. Seems overcompressed and unrefined.

Of course I've heard the new song like four or six times, and it's really great. I'm leaving it alone for a while so I can go back and hear it again.

So far sounds brutal and cool, just like almost everything they've done.

Yes, is compressed, but I think is the quality of the link...

Yay!

No, the song doesn't sound like anything different.  It sounds like Dream Theater.  The Dream Theater I know and love.  And I'm happy. Smile

Yes! The drums sound so much better than in the last album. They were so far in the back of the mix on ADTOE.
As for the song...

I thought this album was supposed to break new ground?

That's what they always say. Lol.

The song isn't really bad i suppose, James isn't trying things vocally that makes him sound like a cat being stepped on.
Guitar is kind if boring. I wish Marco would of been chosen. I'm not blown away by the drums.
Myung is still unheard and I don't hear anything interesting from Jordan.

For a band that is filled with virtuosos I'm not hearing anything unique or creative. This could have been released in the 90s and been the norm.

Sorry to be harsh just me opinion after 2 listens.

Well, you know when a single is released it's going to be the most "radio friendly" part of the album - can't expect that what they'd release a month and a half before the official release date will be the best part of the album.
