The Octavarium cover is just cool because it has a Newton's Cradle on it. A Newton's Cradle can turn the most lame and pedestrian album cover (...or desk...or science class) into a wondrous and majestic extravaganza of nifty physics.

I always liked the Octavarium artwork as a whole, It seemed very Hugh Syme-y all around. The Greatest Hit artwork was the same way for me. It's when BC&SL hit that I thought, "Hey, wait a minute..." His work on Snakes and Arrows was great too. S&A live? Not so much.

Speaking of BC&SL, the image of the fish in the glass and the elephant painting was quite cool. The rest was kind of meh to me.

The artwork for Rush's Caravan single is excellent. Much better than CA. That being said I much prefer paintings rather than computer generated stuff.

I like BC&SL and pretty much all the DT covers.....but yes except ADTOE. Although the inner gatefold on vinyl is pretty cool......matter of fact, all their vinyl cover art is much better than the jewel case versions....IMO Especially this one.......Fantastic!!! Again, IMHO.......

I just saw a video of an actual elephant painting a few months ago, and not just some random lines, but it was painting a perfectly identifiable... well, elephant. I don't know if the video could somehow have been faked, but it seemed pretty real to me. Yet, at the same time, it seems too incredible to be true.

As far as DT covers go, I really like Scenes From a Memory, Train of Thought, and Octavarium, but most of the rest of them aren't very good.

Ha! That's a can of worms I will not open .......I have my personal opinions. Anyhow BC&SL is a bit loud, pushed some...I have to say other than Nightmare, the rest of the album is really nice, especially The Count. As far as SDOIT, its fantastic!! They did an excellent job on this one

The Count of Tuscany has one of the best song openers I've ever heard. Now I want to listen to it on vinyl.

I appreciate Dream Theater. I think Myung, Petrucci, Rudess and Portnoy are all incredible musicians. LaBrie has a place in my collection, but I have to be in the mood to throw back to my days of big hair-band metal.
Because I prefer instrumental music, I tend to gravitate to Liquid Tension.
DT does have a place in my heart. With that said, when I die, I want The Spirit Carries On played at my funeral.

I threw five clocks down on my bed
The chimes danced out on golden threads
And turned to footprints on my wall
Sequined Tears began to fall...

Six Degrees looks great on vinyl. I'd love to grab a copy of it, but the cheapest I can find online is $40

Looking forward to the new single, even though I haven't really been too into DT lately. I can't wait to hear what MM brings to the table now that he's more involved with the songwriting process.

Dream Theater (John Petrucci at least) sound like they really believe this new album will be their strongest yet. I certainly hope so. They said that about ADTOE, which had some great songs but was far from their strongest (That's Scenes From a Memory in my, and many others, opinion). But hey, we get a new 20 minute long song

I don't see Dream Theater making a poor quality album, but I don't see have they can achieve any more difference or innovation considering what they have done already. How many bars can you possibly set in a specific genre of music??
I see the album sounding like a cross between Falling Into Infinity and A Dramatic Turn of Events.
I really don't know how much more innovation they can cover? Really don't.
The album will sound very much in vein of what they have already done, but it will sound good! They make quality music. Amazing what they accomplish in 2 years, but I'd even wait 5 years for anything they want to put out. They are so respected by me. Love their music. Best prog metal band in the world I think. :)
