Yeah I would love some great lyrics akin to their Awake album. Some of their best lyrics are on on that album.

I really like those guys they are very talented players that together create some of the best music around.
But lets be more accurate.

The Good:
They combine Heavy Metal and Progrressive Rock almost perfect it sound so good together.
They have a unique touch in thier sound that makes us know when we are listening to one of thier albums.
They have some of the genres best instrumental tracks and one of the greatset concept albums in music history.
Their live performences are great and energy fluding.
The Bad:
Heavy Metal can block some creative ideas that classic prog isnt afraid to use.
After thier album Six Degrees....; Some of thier albums are designed as "The great songs side" and "the bad songs side"
The Ugly:
Most prog metal bands are compared to them and it makes for bad reviews for very talented prog metal bands.
Some reviewers coin them as the genres godfathers which makes us forget about prog metal or proto prog metal bands that came before them.

New stuff:

Dream Theater
’s self-titled album – the band’s 12th studio release overall, and fourth with Roadrunner Records – will be released September 24, and now you can check out the cover art and see the track listing below!

Says guitarist John Petrucci about Dream Theater, “I see every new album as an opportunity to start over. To either build or improve upon a direction that has been evolving over time or to completely break new ground. This is the first self-titled album of our career and there is nothing I can think of that makes a statement of musical and creative identity stronger than that. We’ve fully explored all of the elements that make us unique, from the epic and intense to the atmospheric and cinematic. We’re incredibly excited about Dream Theater and can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”

The nine-track disc was recorded at Cove City Studio in Glen Cove, Long Island, with guitarist Petrucci producing and Richard Chycki engineering and mixing. It’s the band’s second album with drummer Mike Mangini, and the first one on which he was a part of the writing process from Day One.

In January, Petrucci said of Mangini’s work, “When people hear the drumming on this album, they’re gonna be pretty freaked out. On the last album, he did a great job, but he wasn’t there for the writing process and he was interpreting drum parts that I had programmed. Even though he used his creativity, of course, to change them up and do his thing, I feel like now he’s just Mike Mangini unleashed. It’s all him. It’s all his creativity, all his decisions and ideas and man, the guy’s an animal.”

The track listing for Dream Theater is as follows:

1. FALSE AWAKENING SUITE
i. Sleep Paralysis
ii. Night Terrors
iii. Lucid Dream

2. THE ENEMY INSIDE

3. THE LOOKING GLASS

4. ENIGMA MACHINE

5. THE BIGGER PICTURE

6. BEHIND THE VEIL

7. SURRENDER TO REASON

8. ALONG FOR THE RIDE

9. ILLUMINATION THEORY
i. Paradoxe de la Lumière Noire
ii. Live, Die, Kill
iii. The Embracing Circle
iv. The Pursuit of Truth
v. Surrender, Trust & Passion

Dream Theater will be available in a wide range of distinctive versions, including standard and special edition CDs, 180 gram double LP, and a limited edition boxed set. Pre-orders are scheduled to launch in July at the Roadrunner Records Webstore.

Dream Theater will be on tour in Europe in January and February 2014, and in North America in March 2014.

------------------------------------

I'm really excited now. That is their first tasteful album cover since Train of Thought, even if it is a bit boring. 75% sure that either the phrases "Dream Theater or "Theater of Dreams" will appear in the opening suite. LOL

Meh. At least it's not insanely stupid like their previous one two three.

Systematic Chaos was ok. At least it wasn't their typical cluttered nonsense.

This cover is just silliness to me. Of course i'll still give the album a look at once it's released.

Love the artwork. Simple and appropriate for this record's intended statement.

Who cares about the artwork.....the middle songs sound like songs from Octavarium.

All I know is it needs to be a killer album for them to save some face.....and yes I will buy it and if they come to Seattle next year I will go.

It doesn't justify laziness and a lack of artistic interest for me. Might as well put a giant 12 in the background.

But Black Sabbath already did "13", so DT wouldn't wanna look like copycats.

Guys, you have no appreciation for simpler cover artwork? IMO, the song titles seem proggier than usual.

What's weird is the lack of the DT logo.

Yes that's the artwork for this landmark album!!!!!111

Ermm

You see my point? LOL

Calling it simple doesn't excuse it's quality lol.
There are plenty of artworks that are very simple but are equally potent or visually interesting. This one is neither.

^ You must hate the artwork for Close To The Edge.

I'll take the new artwork for DT12 over the clown on a tightrope somehow tied 3500 feet in the air.

Copycats?? They copied Circus Maximus 1st Chapter album guy on the unicycle for ADTOE, almost to the pixel Shocked.

I also stared at the silver DT logo too......it does not look right Confused

Well, that's another story...

I was talking about the lack of the DT logo, not the Majesty symbol, which yea does look weird.

Close To the Edge is actual artwork, at least the lettering is. This DT picture is a CGI of a planet and a weird DT logo......although I suppose the "x" and III = 13....but there are 2 X's in the logo = 23??

The songs better kick a$$ from this talented group.

It's iconic and is better because of the text and fading of colors. Still not big fan or anything..

Time and a Word is cool though. Nothing over-the-top or classic like Fragile.

I'd take the clown over both though :3
