There once was a music called prog That critics would endlessly flog It proved they were daft So the rest of us laughed And flushed their reviews down the bog!

A fellow called Hammill from Ealing made songs with a desperate feeling. He spiced up his voice with an aeroplane noise that the boys in the band found appealing.

I hadn’t read yours when I made mine. I suppose you mean Hammill, but I must confess that I don’t understand the part about the metalprogger and the bird-dogging … (I don’t know Hammill’s biography very well; I’m more interested in the music and the lyrics).

Seems PH limericks have become fashionable so here's another
"I once wrote some poems" said Hammill "That were dark and too dreary for Camel" I asked Guy and Hugh If they thought they would do And they said "You're one sick twisted mammal!"
...and one about my favourite drummer...
A restless young drummer named Bill Partnered with Squire until The Fish drove him mad So he left the Yes man Wetton made him happier still!

Jon from a faraway planet flew a spaceship and knew how to man it: His trustworthy crew was a Russian Khatru, but none of them knew how to land it.

No, I don’t. To bird-dog is to observe or follow closely. "Salty" may mean a number of things, but I’ve found no noun, not even on Urban Dictionary. Remember that we’re a few people here who don’t have (North American) English as our first language. And who’s the metalprogger? Nic Potter? Keith Ellis? And I don’t know the story, thus it doesn’t make much sense to me. If you tried to explain, maybe you could make me laugh, or at least understand what your limerick is about.

Dean is just champing at the bit waiting for Wallace to explain this one.

Nå synes jeg du oppfører deg som en eklatant snottabajas som fortjener å kjølhales. Btw, Rob and Dennis, very nice and funny verses!

I wager it's a rude metaphor for stealing someone's girlfriend

No.
(But yes, bird-dogging is known as girlfriend-napping in Amerikay.)

Time for some new bands to have fun with...
A singer named Nichols was blue 'cause the neo-prog haters he knew Claimed that he sucked And his band was a bust Which caused him to doubt his IQ!
Mikael growled words like a demon Then sang like an angel between them Some fans were amused And others confused But The Mighty Opeth ruled Sweden!
Three Shulman brothers were friends With musical gifts without end They added a Kerry And string man named Gary Acquiring an intricate blend!

A more romantic one:
A flute playing bard born in Fife told Shone, his beautiful wife, "You may find me sick or thick as a brick, but I’m yours for the rest of your life."

There once was Henry, a Cow To whom all the RIO bands bow With a shrill German voice And a clangity noise They always made audiences say, "Wow" I used to be better at this.
