Thought it was well done (imo JJAbrahms doesn't make a bad film) but I was a  little disappointed they used the Khan character again.
With so many possibilities for sci-fi why reuse the same themes all the time?
Confused

Yeah there is a ton of un-mined material from TOS.

Small-budgeted but tightly rendered crime thriller has Tom Cruise as an ex-army investigator culled to help find a sniper.   Reminiscent of Steve McQueen's better work in Bullitt and The Hunter, Reacher is a refreshing change for Cruise after endless Mission:Impossibles, and features the stunning Rosamund Pike as well as Robert Duvall in a good supporting part. Decent popcorn flick.
Co-starring Werner Herzog as a zero-tolerance Russian zek.

He was superb, absolutely chilling.   I'd add that the fight scenes were the best non-Asiatic combat in recent memory.

i'm a bit worried about this...as i've read quite a few of the books.....so not sure why they got a short person to play the role of a 6 ft plus stocky jack reacher like he is in the books.....and also confused as to why they've done this film....as its not the first book in the series.

Guess I'm late to this party but just saw "Oldboy"
Well, not recommended at 2 am when you're kinda tired. That was...somethingLOL

I think it was good, I may have lost the point...it seems like there must be some stuff deeper than just a revenge film, but I really don't know

Finally saw Batman: Dark Knight Arises.......A for special effects but only a B- for the storyline.

It was like a drawn-out tv episode with big budget effects. Enjoyable to watch but forgotten as soon as I stepped out of the cinema.

Benedict Cumberbatch was pretty good as a stereotypical "Brit-actor-as-a-villan", but he wasn't "Khaaaaaan!"

And all the knowing, but with a twist, references back to earlier films and episodes (such as iconic lines spoken by the "wrong" characters) became a little wearing after a while. If you're going to reboot a franchise then take it somewhere new.
What?

^ Haven't seen it but word was that this film is a remake of the pilot 'Where No Man Has Gone Before' (the sparkly-eyed demigods), but I haven't yet heard any TOS fans describe it as such.

It has some of the same themes but reworked with a different storyline.

Lawless

Rented this before realising was made by the same team as produced/wrote one of my favorite movies, The Proposition, so a real pleasure of anticipation as the credits were rolling.

Not disappointed one bit - The story of 3 bootlegging brothers in the 20s & 30s & their struggles against a newly appointed (and corrupt as hell) special deputy, intertwined with 2 parallel & totally different love stories. Beautifully written (again by Nick Cave), beautifully filmed, beautifully acted, comedy, tragedy, enough visceral violence to shock, but not to overpower the film & Guy Pearce playing the best bad guy I've seen since Gary Oldman's (incidentally, GO has a relatively small part in this movie, but steals the scene every time...) psychotic detective in Leon -

Special Deputy Charlie Rakes:

I know I'm gushing, but I honestly cannot praise this film enough; hesitate to say it, but for me... it's perfection.

I dunno. I'm being forced to go and see this next week on cheap night. Last movie I saw in the theatre was Harry Brown. Where a pensioner kicks ass. I liked TOS with Captain slut and all it's flawed premises, plot oversights, crappy sets, bloopers and beautiful women guest stars. Best one was in Amok Time whith Leonard Nimoy smoking a cigarette in the background during a Kirk fight scene with lights and microphones dangling overhead. I think they fixed it on the restored versions but when it was on TV in syndication you got to see it. I never thought TOS worked on the big screen. They were essentially cool little morality plays not meant to be expanded with high tch special effects. Coolest special effect from TOS was from That Which Survives when the computer image of Losira folds into a little dot and disappears. I would have liked to see this episode made into a full-length feature film:

Troll Hunter

Exceedingly tedious and insipid faux-documentary about a young group of filmmakers and the 'troll hunting' adventurer who leads them through the Norwegian woods in search of the fabled creature.   Somewhere between Finding Bigfoot and Blair Witch.

DARK SKIES (us, 2013)

Ha! Ha!Ha!

Do they EVEN care that suburbia - horror is a formula that JUST CANNOT WORK??
The haunting of the refridgerator.
The toaster that throws itself to the ground.
The flicker of lights & tv reception when the alien abductors are in the vicinity.

The wild lights and shaking foundations, yet the neighbours just 6 feet next door never see anything.
The woman just finds out " irrefutable" proof that a son of hers will be alien-abducted withing the next 24 hours, so what does she tell her husband when he arrives with the good news that FINALLY he has landed a job? - Nothing. She doesnt want to spoil his good mood.

And now this new formula that they are milking the tits off: Dismal US economy is causing parents to be at each others throats and this in turn f**ks up the children so much that...evil forces(supernatural or spacef**ks) perk-up their ears and concentrate on f**king up the children even more.

Brrrrr. Scary...so f**king scarry how STUPID these producers are.

No wonder - same clowns wot made "Insidious" just yesterday.

......

Just an example of the worth of my movie reviews.

Star Trek  - Into darkness

Brilliant. Enjoyed every minute. Even better than the first of  the reboot. Cumberbatch made  a superb Kahn. A Joyride throughout.

 5stars.

@Knobby: Ease off on the foul language please - the auto-censor is not there to allow you to f-bomb, it's there to catch the times when you forget that we do not permit bad language here.

Saw it actually on midnight premier and again the next day but Man Of Steel. I really enjoyed it. Probably the most stylized Superhero movie as I expected from Zach Snyder. I loved the feel and understand why it has been caused division among the fanbase along with mixed reviews. I loved it though!
