Both have sold albums by the lorry load, but to be frank I never liked the Stones at all. There's are probably about four stones tunes that I can tolerate, and even they get annoying due to crap vocals.

I like 'em both but I've listened to Floyd more. Although I listen to the Stones more nowadays. Also I wouldn't call either the greatest. I wouldn't really call any band the greatest but if I was forced to I would say "The Beatles", just because there are enough people who really believe that to do the arguing for me so it saves me the effort of arguing the point one way or the other.
I'm not really familiar with the Rollers except for some of their hits, but I'm very familiar with Pink Floyd. And I think Floyd's music has more depth to it. However I wouldn't play any of their songs at a party, but the Rolling Stones can often fit in those situations.
I'm a Floyd guy for sure. No question. Also, it's hard to measure or compare the success of these 2 bands because both have done so well on so many levels, especially financially.

Stones v Beatles
Queen v Pink Floyd
Genesis v Yes
Led Zep v Black Sabbath
those match ups make more sense to me
There are Stones tracks I really like. Ruby Tuesday tends to be overlooked but that is as good as any Beatles songs. Paint It Black is another I like.
Jagger/ Richards wrote The First Cut Is The Deepest which was the first solo hit for PP Arnold who of course had the prog connection with The Nice who started as her backing band.
