Grab a cold one and watch these videos. There are others on YouTube some better, lots & lots worst (but even the bad ones can still have bits of info). The thing is you can always buy a Dell or whatever from the store ready to go. No headache, no hassle. These usually have good average components. They work and they are have warranties. The issue is they are average in performance. When you build you can put what you want into the build. More features, better performance and usually no more money. Plus when it's finished there's almost a feeling of invincibility. You've done it. Any way check some videos, go to some forums and decide. Good luck. |

Built my own PC two years ago. I hate Macs, I tried using them at college for a year and the OS drove me round the bend, there seems to be no logic to it's set up (ironic, given that Logic was installed on all of them).

I'm far from a expert, and while I really can't say I care, PC just seems easier, and cheaper. Trust me. You do NOT need to be a computer wiz to build a PC, and can do so at a great price that fits your need. As for Apple, I'll give em/Jobs credit, they built an amazing marketing campaign. They are "different" and "artsy" which kinda covers the fact they are like any other mega business ![]() Again, I've heard too many stories about tech issues (often simple ones) considering the price...and they seem needlessly complicated/difficult. |

Mac. I've used both for many years, and my user experience has always been miles ahead on Mac. No comparison. I like Macs, I dislike Windows. The way they look, the way they work, the way they sound, the way they behave. I gladly pay more.

Brand PCs tend to have cramped cases and suspicious/insufficient power supplies which makes them impossible or risky to upgrade. Plus when something breaks you have to RMA the whole thing as opposed to just replacing the faulty part.

If you can play with lego you can assemble a PC. Picking the right parts might be another question, but there are 13052435094350 resources available to help with that so ignorance is a bad excuse. I wish more people knew this :) |

From what I know, there is a limited number of manufacturers who actually make the hardware components and assemble computers. I don't know if there is much architectural difference between Macs and PC's any more. We had one Mac laptop a few years ago, and I don't remember it being any faster, more efficient or easier to use than any of the PC laptops I have had since 1997. The Mac had 3 major disadvantages, though: (1) Was 3 times more expensive than a comparable PC laptop, (2) Safari was awful .. even more awful than the already awful IE, (3) Its hard drive died on us in 14 months.
The Verdict: a generic PC that runs Ubuntu seems to be the best bang for the buck overall.

I worked at Apple from '82 to '85 and have exclusively bought PC's ever since.

The only money I ever gave Apple was US$20.00 to buy a ticket for US Festival '83-Heavy Metal Sunday....put on by The Woz.
Microsoft will always get my business....unless they go out of business.
