Or possibly even the Purple Album

^ Beat me to it. I'll be damned ... it will be referred to by some as The Purple Album. Whatever they are doing to their reputation. Not sure if Mike would be cool with that if he was still on board.

Do I really need to explain the problem with the color (even if it just "looks cool")? ... Reminds me of that MK Fighter, Rain.

I like that; I think I might just call it "The Purple Album" myself. Especially since purple is my favourite colour.

Because it's weird ... and dull. This is something that people used to do in the olde days (I don't know why, because it only demonstrates lack of creativity). Dream Theater? It already sounds dull. Having a band naming its album after themselves ... talk about corn and cheese.

In my opinion creativity has nothing to do with naming the album. One can name it and the title can suck anyway.

But anyway, that's relatively trivial since we have other, more important matters on hand to talk about.
That's my point. The name of the album is totally trivial.

Not in favour of self-titled albums, they always need a nick so in the end people gives them a name anyway (i.e. Genesis 'Shapes', Peter Gabriel 'Melt' etc etc). So this may well become known as DT 2013, not very exciting... An artist (writer, painter, sculptor or whatever) is supposed to give his works a name. Imagine they would not give names to the songs and just title them 'track 1', 'track 2', 'track 3' ... Confused

I have moderate hopes thanks to the hopefully refreshing effect of Mangini, but only moderate to be honest.

Orchestra? I don't mind, they seem to be able to work it out well, and if that's in any measure a sign that the music will be a bit more symphonic / classically influenced (a la Six Degrees suite), it's welcome!

I call Genesis "Genesis" Peter Gabriel "Peter Gabriel 3" (also wrong I know) The  Beatles "The Beatles" and  I shall call Dream Theater "Dream Theater"

...and if the album is bad I will call it bad "Dream Theater"...

With Mike Portnoy as the only band member, due to be released in 2017 (a nod to Chinese Democracy no doubt)

Well, first of all, I read that there are only two tracks with an orchestra. Second, I forgot how people take out conclusions of everything DT does without even hear a single note of the new album.

It's quite boring, actually. Pearl Jam made a self-titled album like 13 years into the business. I didn't Heard a single complain about their fans.

That's because Dream Theater fans are obsessive maniacs.

Giving an opinion on the fact of issuing a 'self-titled album' (which I personally think it's more fair to refer to as an 'untitled album'), especially when it's not a debut, has nothing to do with judging the eventual musical quality of the album. I will judge the quality when I will hear it, for the time being let me express my opinion about untitled albums please.

You can think whatever you want about a title. But to take conclusions about “how’s going to be” the album it’s kind of… How to say it? Unproductive and inaccurate, to say the least.

It’s a free world, it’s a *near to* free site, let your voice out. ;)

No. An untitled  album has no band  name on it. Like Zep's fourth. Different thing altogether. If they are calling it Dream Theater then that is it's title.

Clever gymnastics Wink but a title for a music album or a book are not just a physical stamp on the product. A painting or a sculpture do not have the painter's or sculptor's name and the work's title name stamped on them but this does not mean they do not have a work's title name or an artist.
Having 'DT' stamped on the cover does not mean a work's title to me, it's just the artist's name. And not having it printed at all (e.g. Zep's IV) would not make any difference to me.
