I'm afraid my computer (a PC desktop around 9 years old) is starting to cry for a replacement soon. I always had PC's never a Mac. I'm hesitating what should be my next computer.

Current use, approx:

Surfing, email & other internet stuff: 65%
Work (MS Office, excel, powerpoint, word, SQL etc): 15%
Entertainment (pictures, movies etc, but no games, I rarely play any computer game):   5%
Music: 10% 
Other stuff:   5%
I have it on hold now, but I used to use the PC for making music with Cubasis and interface with my instruments, I have a good soundcard with all the interface ports for audio and midi, and I plan to re-start the music stuff, possibly upgrading to Cubase or other better DAW than the rather crappy Cubasis.

(I don't have an iPod or iPad and I'm not too keen on getting one, so the subject of Apple multi-device compatibility is not much important).

Any advice is welcome, thanks!

I use a PC at work, and a Mac at home.   Mac does have a software package for MS Office, so you can work in Excel and Word, but it's not quite as powerful or easy to use as the real thing.  It works in a pinch, though.  My wife works in graphic design, and people in that line of work almost always use Macs, while people in more data-intensive business settings like me use PCs almost exclusively.  As far as internet browsing and email, I don't think there's much difference in what you can get with a Mac vs PC, it's more what you're used to.

I'd tend to recommend you stick with PC since you're comfortable with that format, but should you decide on Mac, it's quite easy to pick up and very user friendly.

Don;t know very much about computers but I have always owned PC's.
One does nothing yet nothing is left undone.

There is no logical or rational reason to buy any Apple product so there is no point trying to decide using reason. Just buy what you want - neither work perfectly or do exactly what you want them to (or expect them to), neither are "better" than the other (or any worse). If you want a Mac then buy a Mac, if you don't want a Mac then don't buy a Mac, if you want to give Bill Gates even more money for something you've paid for a dozen times over already then buy a PC.

Really don't care. I use PC just because it's cheaper but whatever, it's all fine.

Only thing I can say about Mac is I love the almost madman like attention to detail and "aesthetics" including Steve Jobs personally making sure any excess glue was removed from around a bolt...yet my friend had space bar issues with his, and another had a few issues over time
Could be bad luck, but with such extreme car of detail, and high price, it's a little funny that so many physical issues have popped up.

Who cares about the men that run the companies? They are/were both rich as all f**k and were both egomaniacal dictators. If you wanna squabble over who was nuttier, go for it LOL

How about neither. I just moved across the country and got a new computer and it's already driving me nuts. It hates my guts even more than the last one. I actually looked at some Aple computers. What is their game? Charging you more money just so can go even more insane?

First I would save the world then I'd buy one of these completely restored like it came out of the Castle Bromwich factory in 1942. Better than sex.

I've always used PCs, and I rather them than Macs, so I would recommend PC. But buy whatever you want.

Well that's a point, I'm not a computer technician at all but at least with my PCs I can do some stuff, I have upgraded the RAM, replaced the power supply when it got broken, upgraded the sound card, the network card, installed a USB port hub etc etc, I can understand the basic architecture of the system and work on it, I'm not afraid of tearing the PC down in pieces and work on it.
With Mac I have no experience at all, I have no idea how they look inside, I guess they're not too different from PCs but I don't know and that removes confidence.
I guess I will stick to PC, also the choice of software is bigger for PC than for Mac.
