RPI Road Trip!
I have about a 10 hour drive Monday for work and I am planning an all RPI eargasm for the duration.
The lineup at the moment::
PFM - Per Un Amico (this one started it all for me)
Le Orme - Uomo di pezza QVL - QVL QVL - II Tempo Della Goia i Giganti - Terra Boca (figured I'd need to perk things up around mid morning) Osanna - Palepoli Alphataurus - s/t Rovescio Della Medaglia - Contaminazione Area - crac (should be near lunch) Rocky's Filj - Storie... (think I will need to wake up after lunch) EA Poe - Generazioni PFM - L'isola di Niente Maxophone - s/t Cervello - Melos Jacula - Tardo... (should be sick of other vehicles and turning to the dark side) Biglietto Per L'inferno - s/t Goblin - Roller Le Orme - Collage Latte E Miele - Passio... (should be near my goal and seeing the light!) I should be fried by then.....(yes I know, I am not quite right in the head....)

Good work, Jim! During weekdays I travel to and from work by train, so my Ipod train trips very frequently look pretty similar to this, although not as many at one time! I can usually squeeze one and a bit in each way!
Anyway, right now I'm listening to one of my favourites - Gianni D'Errico's `Antico Teatro Da Camera' - that, like the Festa Mobile album, has been a little too neglected by me for quite some time, even though it's among my most dear RPI titles. Here's a nice little track from it: It's a really pleasant album, very melodic with wonderful vocals, musically it reminds me of the more commercial Le Orme stuff, like `Storia O Leggenda', etc, where there's nice instrumentation around easy to digest pop/rock sounds. |

Nice list Jim. Michael, Gianni D'errico was one of the first albums I bought.

Pierre, I heard some clips of the Gianni D'Errico album on Youtube many years ago, and very quickly afterwards Greg Walker got a vinyl reissue of it in, so I bought that.
It's one of my favourites, my friend....not a total prog-rock blowout, but tasteful, melodic, gentle.....perfect! |

I listened again to Banco, Maxophone (some English vocals on that one..), Rocky's Filji, Le Orme, Museo, Ys, and Celeste (pleasant to listen to)......good music but still have trouble processing many of the vocals.
Perhaps RPi just isn't my cup of tea. |

Don't give up too fast, Doctor. Be patient. RPI is the cure.
Look at me before to cross the road of QVL. |

DrWu, it's really no different than....well, do you listen to metal bands like My Dying Bride, Opeth, etc, or any other heavy that feature growled vocals? If so, you surely wouldn't be able to understand them, but does that ruin your interest in them?
I have no idea if you like that sort of thing at all, just trying to find a common ground for you to approach the wonderful world of RPI from! |

As a matter of fact I don't like metal bands or growling vocals;...and .I don't think I own any hardcore prog metal at all. I pulled out a few more RPI bands to listen to today. I'll give you an update tonight. |

Jim, I hope your road trip is going well!
Your mention of Osanna's Palepoli--I've been comparing my King CD to a recently acquired vinyl rip of the Seven Seas Japanese LP. I'm reminded again of how much better the King CD sounds compared to the Fonit version we've been making do with for way too long. The Fonit is the jewel case version sold domestically and is also the basis of the BTF mini version. If you can find that King version, it is worth whatever you pay. It's that much better! And if you're interested the Seven Seas LP sounds great as well, a little brighter, but not overly bright except in one or two spots. Perfect album!

Akerfelt may have one of the best 'Death growls' in the business. It's a style that I am not largely fond of at all, but i like M.A growl pitch a lot. Sounds great on the album THE WATERSHED. If you by chance enjoy those growls, then you could graduate to bands like NEUROSIS and ATHEIST...if you like those bands you are one hardcore dude. Lol. Lastly, top of the totem poll, is MESHUGGHA. You will enter a world of pain. Lol |

Actually. I discovered an RPI metal band recently called
NERO DI MARTE and I quite like their metal approach. More prog/metal then tech extream or death metal; in fact the album Nero Di Marte (self titled) I'd say is strictly prog metal. No death growls really. |

My playlist was all MP3 in iPod for the trip, I will have to check the CD when I get back but I am pretty sure it is the Fonit one. Unfortuneately, I do not have any vinyl collection....
On a side note, I made a last minute edit to my list and inserted Blocco Mentale's POA in place of one of the PFMs and it blew me away as I must have not given it a good quality, undisturbed listen...it is great!
