I’m on my way out. I’ll be back tomorrow – or maybe the day after – with a new one. Have a nice evening!

Eh … actually it was my go. But it’s OK. It could be Lewis Carroll, but my guess is J.R.R. Tolkien. If not, is this man still alive?

Not alive.

Im supposed to give only one hint?
The man is referenced on a David Bedford lp and Kevin Ayers.
Many more, but if I listed them it would make it too easy.

Well, I found another name, actually quite familiar: John Peel. Is it him?

OK. It can’t be Nono, Hindemith, Schoenberg or Webern. Good night.

Another familiar name popped up: Samuel Tayler Coleridge.
In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree:
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man
Down to a sunless sea.
So twice five miles of fertile ground
With walls and towers were girdled round;
And there were gardens bright with sinuous rills,
Where blossomed many an incense-bearing tree;
And here were forests ancient as the hills,
Enfolding sunny spots of greenery. (I know very well that this is not The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, but personally I think that Kubla Khan is better.) |

Ah - you think Coleridge because I mentioned David Bedford.
Nope. Not Coleridge.

OK, Knobby, I will explain the rules of this game:
1. Only yes-no questions are allowed. 2. When you start a new one, you inform the others about the gender, if it’s a real or fictional person, and whether the person is alive or deceased. 3. When you answer the first question, you can start giving hints. 4. The one who finds the right answer gets the next go. You more or less hijacked the thread since it was my go. Next question: Did he die before 1900? |

Yes.
.".3. When you answer the first question, you can start giving hints."
Not sure what exactly this means.

I am reduced to a nonplus here!
How to behave??
Should I give more hints? Dare I?
Oh, I shall face the consequences.
Atomic Rooster
Strawbs
Gilgamesh
That should make it easy.

Then my guess is the visionary poet and artist William Blake. Tyger, tyger etc. Satanic mills & other great stuff.
Of course you’re welcome to participate here – the more, the merrier. Just follow the rules. The reason I didn’t post the answer yesterday is that my wife and I went out six o’clock (four GMT) to meet her brother (it was his last evening here), and we didn’t return until two or three in the night. Cheers! |

I take that as a "yes, you’re right". I’m actually sure because I found this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:William_Blake_House_in_Felpham.JPG (It was Heaven and Hell by Vangelis that put me on the right track.) Next one: Male, alive. |
