Today I started my 700-artists marathon. Namely, I scrambled a list of roughly 700 artists that I want or need to listen to. I'll take one album per artist, listen to it once and use this thread to post my short impressions based on that one listen. So, let's begin:

#1. Tartar Lamb - Sixty Metonymies
Well, I listened to this yesterday, but it's part of the marathon, so I'll go along and post my impressions:
it's just what I expected - very delicate and interesting compositions. What I especially liked were trumpet parts, which added quite a lot to the atmosphere. The thing that left me confused was the part on the last track, with robotic vocals; I don't really know if I liked them or not. Overall, I liked the album quite a lot, and I feel it will grow on me considerably during subsequent listens. 7/10

#2: Guilt Machine - On This Perfect Day
Not exactly a fan of prog metal (not counting experimental/post/extreme stuff), nor do I have any special desire to explore the genre, but a friend recommended me this album, thinking it'll get me into prog metal stuff. Well, it didn't succeed, but I liked the album more than I thought. There were some dark parts which got me interested, but they were interrupted with cheesy synths and not really special guitar riffs. Also, I didn't like the lyrics too much. 3/10

#3: maudlin of the Well - Bath
Another Toby Driver project and I would say the least intricate one. Bath took me by surprise - I expected complex stuff in the vein of Dream Theater (but more mature and tasteful), but I got an incredible mesh up of heavy and light moments without forcing any compositions into the album or doing things for the sake of showing off or making the album lengthier. Every instrument has its own special place and is played right when it's needed, without creating a fuss. Overall, a big surprise, and a pleasant one. 9/10 with a large potential to grow to 10/10
