I am on US east coast and I enjoy the Itailian vocals(don't understand a word of it) as it allows me to focus more on the sound and for the most part I view thw vocal as another instrument. For me, I have feeling if I understood them I would like it less. I enjoy the mystery of it. My 2 cents worth... |

I understand what you are saying but for me it interferes at times with the music ....I'm a lyrics fan so I wish i could follow along.

You should read Andrea's reviews. He always talks of the meaning of the song.

Really it's not Doc. Most RPI fans have a problem with English vox by RPI bands. It really detracts from the authenticity and the experience. The operatic Italian vox and language are what make it special for me personally, I won't buy RPI with English vox anymore. I don't like how it sounds. |

Hilarious Dave!
Had tears in my eyes by the time the drumming Spidey bit came up, and it just gets even better from there! Bonus points for the gratuitous use of Ninjas, which makes me very happy! |

I've learned a fair bit of Italian over the years just by listening to RPI! I don't mind foreign vocals at all, and I prefer that native speakers use their own language--it adds to the authenticity. If I want to know what they're saying, I seek a translation. In particular Italian is such a beautiful language, it's a shame when they don't use their own language IMO.

I think the set is great! Start with that, and if you like what you hear, try to find the original Celeste album in the Vinyl Magic edition (or the Arcangelo mini lp version, it's the same disc--NOT the SHM version), then Second Plus and I Suoni in una Sfera. (Those last two might be a bit harder to come by.)

Sleeping with the angels.
Delicious album mixing several styles (instrumentals with flute, folk and hard
rock songs) with an infinite grace |

Nice. Less dissonant than the first, but very good.

I get the 'authenticity' part but almost all the bands I own that have non English vocals I have trouble getting into on any meaningful level. Like the music but I can't relate to the atmosphere since the lyrics are unknown to me. Maybe I need to learn a few European languages?
For instance Eloy and Nektar sing in English.....yet they are primarily German. Yet no one says they are not authentic. And there are many other bands who sing in English....PFM has done it , Anekdoten, Earth and Fire, etc...does that make them non-authentic then..?

When I first started listening to RPI way way back when I was in high school I enjoyed listening to the Italian language even though I did not understand a word of it. But now I am actually learning Italian (Thank you, Rosetta Stone!) so I can revisit all of my old favorites (and new favorites, too) with a deeper understanding and level of appreciation.
