Definitely. Such a varied and idiosyncratic release! Wild Area-jazz flourishes, delicately prepared passages, sax blasts and power chords, good good things.

Pierre, those songs are both on their 1971 album, Sa Vida Ita Est. Nice stuff!

Ahh, Mr Roxy, a man after my own heart! I love many of the combeback albums from the `old guard', even though I completely understand what some people like Dave and Pierre feel about them. But I've been finding endless great stuff amongst the new Italian releases, even if, as you perfectly summed it up, they might not exactly be proper RPI. The dark folk of female fronted Inchanto, the big insturmental majesty of `Perigeo' by Il Giardino Onorico, the floating tasteful bliss of L'Estate di San Martino....it just goes on and on! But I will point you to Todd's recent addition of the Progenesi band/album mentioned a couple of comments back, you will not find a more exhausting, energetic instrumental blast this year! This years Carpe Nota for me, and you KNOW how I feel about that! |

Their final album is often considered their most progressive, from 1979 or so, called "Dopo Il Buio La Luce." It's different from the first two, but then again the first two are different from each other. It's worth some listening as well! |

I feel there is something special going on in the den here and with RPI! On more than one occassion recently someone has mentioned an album or artist in RPI that I was just starting to listen to. Not to mention all the reviews in the RPI genre and the new RPI albums popping up.
In this case, on Tuesday I decided to get back to expanding on the foundational building blocks of RPI in my young collection, and one of those was Rocky's Filj (albeit the same MP3 source that Zombie mentioned). I avoided this one for a bit as I have never been a huge fan of "wild" sax play, but this one quite intrigued me with the dueling sax and guitar on many passages and I also really like the 2nd track "il soldato" with the erie mix of all the brass, guitar, and vocals. I think I have listened to it about 8 times in 3 days .
Oh, my second foundational purchase this week was Panna Fredda's UNO. Excellent!
The Den appears to be in resonance sychronation or I'm just nuts....

Panna Fredda was so far ahead of their time...a building block in the RPI foundation for sure!

^ No doubt! Even though the album was released in 1971, it was recorded in 1970, well before Le Orme's "Collage" or I Giganti's "Terra in Bocca", often considered the first progressive Italian albums. Panna Fredda definitely has a unique place in the history of Rock Progressivo Italiano!

^ They are in synchronization. I just noticed in my previous post I totally butchered the spelling of synchronization .

The boxset includes the Il SISTEMA'S album, a very interesting album for me, but with a terrible sound.
