Hyde Park on Hudson
Bucolic and relaxed snapshot of FDR during a weekend at his country house entertaining the King and Queen near the start of WW II, his relationship with his wife, fourth cousin, assistant, and the little human dramas that play out while the world moves toward war. Bill Murray is brilliant as the President, the script human and funny with all the minutia of country life played out nicely. |

Lincoln
Spielberg was wise to portray just the last few months of the President's life instead of a sweeping biography, and seemed moved to simplify his storytelling in deference to such an important figure from history. Daniel Day Lewis immerses himself in the role and though clearly an abridged and dramatized version of American history, the film is properly scripted and dialected, and succeeds as the old fashioned crowd-pleaser it was intended to be. |

I fell asleep (unrelated tiredness), but the photography was lovely.

"42", a pretty good movie and well worth seeing, especially if you're into MLB. I wouldn't be surprised if Harrison Ford gets an Academy Award nomination for his performance.

Perks of Being a Wallflower
Wonderful film with superb acting and feeling. Very emotionally driven with some well placed humor. Emma Watson tore it up!!!

The Human Tornado
Fantastically bad blaxploitation from '76 with Rudy Ray Moore and crew attempting to save a local bar owner from some thugs. Pimps, hos, gold jewelry, brightly colored double-breasted suits with matching feather fedoras, gas-guzzling sedans, excessive violence and terrible acting make up the bulk of this urban American classic. |

^ Sick ... as in good or bad?
Me: Iron Man 3. After the gig in NYC ... this one is rather decent.

Zero Dark Thirty.
Wasn't nearly as gripping as I hoped it might be. |

Sucker Punch Extended Cut.
You either love it or hate it. I stinkin' love it... The soundtrack, the CGI worlds, the actresses (best looking and BA line up probably ever), Emily Browing, the story, the stylization, the themes, the reality within reality within reality basically Inception on steroids. I could go on and on. But I'm so grateful that Zach Snyder made this movie and hope with the Man of Steel coming out (super pumped) that people will go back and look at this confusingly tripped up and mostly hated movie. Truly a gem in my eyes.

Jack Reacher
Small-budgeted but tightly rendered crime thriller has Tom Cruise as an ex-army investigator culled to help find a sniper. Reminiscent of Steve McQueen's better work in Bullitt and The Hunter, Reacher is a refreshing change for Cruise after endless Mission:Impossibles, and features the stunning Rosamund Pike as well as Robert Duvall in a good supporting part. Decent popcorn flick. |

John Dies at the End: I haven't read the book this is based on yet (it's currently sitting in front of me, about a foot up from eye level and to the left), but it was quite a fun movie. A lot was left unexplained in this crazy tale about John and Dave, two basically normal guys who got hooked to the drug Soy Sauce and had to save the universe from destruction, essentially...kind of Philip Dick-ish, very funny, and well-filmed for what I assume was an indie/low budget flick. Need to read the book now, though...

Star Trek-Into darkness
Thought it was well done (imo JJAbrahms doesn't make a bad film) but I was a little dissppointed they used the Khan character again.
With so many possibilities for sci-fi why reuse the same themes all the time?
