Looks like the band is taking pics for the new album's booklet. That means we're that much closer to DT12.

Never could get into them....I listened to several of the early ones years ago and one or two later ones and they never clicked with me.
Can you DT fans recommend their most melodic and accessible one..?

DT could never focus purely on symphonic, because that would mean having to write adequate compositions, rather than bludgeoning us with un-dynamic technical metal riffs every time they can't think of how to transition.

Ahem. In that case, Octavarium (song) has some very lovely moments.

Also, if you're into the idea of a more symphonic DT, you could try the band Haken. They are the closest I've ever heard prog metal get to symphonic, for what that is worth.

Would say that Divine Wings of Tragedy might fit into what he is probably looking for.  DT had a bit of fusion and Rush in their style even in their more melodic albums while Symphony X were like a proggy Rainbow at that time (got heavier later on).

I don't really like Dream Theater, they're OK but they overdo things too much!

Agreed, Haken are fantastic.

dr wu23, for a DT album, try Scenes from a Memory or Octavarium.

That pic is pretty cool.  What an awesome background with the clouds etc.  Mangini fits in perfectly.

As far as DT music goes, they tend to beat a dead horse.  The 12 step suite in particular is difficult to get through.  At the same time, I think Best of Times, Count of Tuscany and Lost Not Forgotten are classic prog up there with the best.  They have yet to make a perfect album, as far as I'm concerned, but the last two are pretty close.  I know there's a case to made that several of the earlier albums are masterpieces.

Anyway, looking forward to the new one.
Stardust we are.
