I love "Zen Arcade". I listen to it and the Minutemen's "Double Nickels on the Dime" when I want to be teleported back to the mid 80's hardcore/punk scene.

Pendragon - don't remember which album. Once in a while I dutifully coerce myself into listening to the likes of IQ, Glass Hammer and Anathema to see if I can learn to enjoy neo-classic new prog. Never seems to work, sadly .. Chick Corea Electric Band - Inside out. Perfect. Just perfect. Rush - A Farewell to Kings. Good, as usual. Great bass lines. Amiina - don't remember what (acoustic stuff from Iceland). Excellent quality music.

Today, at the record store I spun:
U.K. (self titled)
Close To The Edge
Larks' Tongues In Aspic
Red
and I FEDEX just dropped off a box of new release... I opened it, and there was an album in there that looked suspiciously proggy lol. It's a band called Green Tea Leaf and the new album is called In The Wake. So after Red finished up I'm going to throw it in, and it might be the last prog album of the night for me! More likely it's the newest metal album that I'm going to hate.

Dirty Projectors - Swing Lo Magellan
Experimental Indie-Rock, great songs with great vocal harmonies but an experimental edge The Oh Hellos - Though the Deep, Dark Valley A folk rock band I checked out off of Noise Trade today, fantastic, fantastic stuff. Just great songs, vocals, and compositions. Listened to it twice. Il Tempio Del Clessidre - s/t Italian prog band, I actually bought this in 2010 when it was new and forgot about among other new releases so this was my first listen, really good stuff. The Hylozoists - L'ile de Sept Villes Another French-Canadian Post-Rock band, but actually the first I've really liked (sorry - I know GY!BE are kind of the frontliners in that genre and especially from there but they've yet to click with me). Short, concise songs with solid melodies and great textures. Sonic Youth - Goo Second time through this album. Not gonna lie, I wasn't looking forward to it, as the only song I remembered from my first listen was "My Friend Goo", which just annoyed me. But this time, the other tracks made a stronger impression on me, quite a few great noise-rockers on this one. The Haxan Cloak - Excavation First listen (via grooveshark) of this very atmosphere-oriented electric act, some nice dark soundscapes stood out, some of it just faded into the background. Strand of Oaks - Pope Killdragon I checked out a few noisetrade albums today besides The Oh Hello's, of them this one was another good folk/rock album but not quite at the same level. Pilgrim - Pilgrim Also from noisetrade, electronic pop but they didn't leave much of an impression. The June Rise Another noisetrade band, I liked this one quite a bit, very nice acoustic folk/rock stuff. (I've noticed that a lot of stuff on noise trade is either electronic or folksy indie music) Paper Route - Paper Route Again, off of noisetrade, not too much to say about these guys, ok pop band to my ears, but not really what I'm interested in atm.

Ok, 5 tracks into the album. And I am extraordinarily impressed! Prog? Perhaps, perhaps not. I suppose it all depends on how pretentious you are (lol). The group uses strange techinques, they have lyrics that deal with sci-fi/fantasy themes, and they have a wide range of styles, even in just the opening five tracks. If I had to make a comparison, so far, regarding the album I would have you imagine Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young meets the Flaming Lips. Of course it is an original album, by an original group, but I would recomend it to everyone. Comes out on May 14th. Tea Leaf Green's In The Wake.

WAIT! lol, the album is more like the Grateful Dead, meets the Flaming Lips, meets Job Brion. lol. That's exactly what I was looking for. Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young is like my goto comparisson for everything I guess.
