Topic: Your Personal Rock Dream Team Posted: April 25 2013 at 20:49 |
Tell us about your ultimate team of rock musicians!
What would be to you the X-Men of Rock?
Mine:
-Joe Bonamassa---Guitar and Vocals
-Sting---Bass and Vocals
-Dave Grohl---Drums
and for progressive effect: Tony Banks----Organ and Keyboards
Now that would be interesting!

Cedric Bixler-Zavala - Vocals Trevor Dunn - Bass John Zorn - Sax Jon Theodore - Drums Trey Spruance - Guitars Michael Karoli - Guitars
Man, I was hoping that this wouldn't just be a cross between The Mars Volta and Mr. Bungle with a hint of Can.

On which projects was Grohl on drums (since the Wiki says that he does play the drums) ? Also, I believe there's another thread like that (too bad I can't remember it's name).
Anyway, ... me - The line-up may change , so this is probably what I'm gonna start with:
Ian Anderson - songwriting duties, ac. guitar (the wit) Steve Howe - ac. gtr (the flavor) Peter Hammill - male lead vocals (the aggression) Margaret Wienk - female lead vocals (the gentleness). Come on, people will know who is singing, a dude or a girl. Guthrie Govan - el. guitar (with a cool up-to-date RnR sound) Fred Frith - el. guitar (the emotion and the flavor) Gavin Harrison - drums (to keep things interesting) Jordan Rudess - piano (the gracefulness) Jon Camp - bass (simplicity and elegance)
Again, like I said: subject to change.

Omg I guess I am gonna call this group PROG X.
Vocals--Peter Nicholls (IQ)
Keyboards--Nathan Van Hala (Saviour Machine)
Guitar--John Petrucci (Dream Theater)
Drums--Mark Zonder (Fates Warning)
Bass--Mike Rutherford (Genesis)
Choirs--CANTIBLE Choir Orchestra conducted by ERIC CLAYTON (Saviour Machine.)
I think this could work!! Project prog X looks mighty and could thwart all evil!!

Mine would just be Magma except with every vocalist replaced by Peter Gabriel. That's right, multiple Peter Gabriels in one band. epic.

He also drummed when Jimmy Page & John Paul Jones guested live with Foo Fighters a few years back, fulfilling a lifelong ambition to play drums with Led Zeppelin. Plus I found this:

I feel like a jazz-rock fusion trio of:
Guthrie Govan (guitar)
Les Claypool (bass)
Gavin Harrison (drums)
would just be awesome. I feel like these three would theoretically compliment each other's style.

I imagine parallel dimensions, like where Mick Jagger was the lead singer of the Who, and Brian Eno were asked to produce a Pink Floyd album in the mid-to-late-70s; where Any Lattimer was asked to join the Floyd instead of Gilmour (I love Gilmour; how about: he joined Camel! :-)... What if Floyd had said, "F*** it," and decided to record You Gotta Be Crazy and Raving & Drooling for the Wish You Were Here album? If there are parallel dimensions that are close to our own, can you just imagine all the great music we've been missing out on...

No ... inconceivable. I don't believe in that crap. There's only one realm under the Butterfly Ring effect, and that's ours. And that's that.

Gracias, amigo. I know this line-up will not go to a heck of a lot of places, but the main idea here is melody + emo resonance (and, if possible, + diversity (Howe's job)).
EDIT: Forgot a bass player. Crap. Think I'm gonna have ... Jon Camp for bass ... and Maggie Wienk for female vocals.

In your opinion! But I agree. Apart from Alice in Chains and a bit of Soundgarden, I find grunge to be a dull genre, and most of the bands I've heard to be mediocre at their best.
