I wanted to spread the word about the VdGG book I co-wrote, so I searched for prog forums on the web in '05. I came across this and progressiveears.com
Actually made a few friends who live near me (Chicago) via progressiveears.com (one has become a good pal -- our kids play together -- and is a fellow author, he wrote the excellent "Strawberry Bricks Guide To Progressive Rock") Edited by bucka001 - April 07 2013 at 08:59 |

I believe it was when I spur-of-the-moment Googled Bo Hansson. I not only found this site, but also that he had passed on the previous year.

I was looking up a little known prog band in wikipedia and they didn't have an entry. I did a search for the bands discography and found it here. I did this for a few months whenever wikipedia came up empty...finally I poked around while on PA one day and discovered the forums...joined the same day

I was poking around the internet one day and there it was. I've found a lot of information between here and the Gibraltar Encyclopedia of Progressive Rock.

The year was 2010 and I was working as a radio host for KILL in a small town called Zigweist, California. My boss, who was the daytime DJ, was a tattooed, gnarly old guy who would tell me stories about how he fell out of an airplane while he was stoned. I was the night DJ and every night from 9 - 10am I would play the most going-to-sleep music. Most people are farmers in Zigweist, so they go to bed early. On this particular night I made the fateful decision to play Pyscho Buddha by Acid Mothers Temple. It was marked as "Ambient sleep songs". I didn't even know who AMT was at the time anyway. I thought "hey it's 20 minutes long, it'll kill some of the time". I popped the CD and waited. The slow opening captivated me. But then, 42 seconds in, BOOM. NOISE PURE NOISE. The sound level went into the red zone and the speakers were dead. i couldn't hear what I was playing. "I'm dead" I thought, and I scrambled to try and fix the speakers, though I new it was useless to try. But my troubles only got worse. Minutes later a knock came at the door. I opened it slowly and there, a few feet away from me was the gaunt, dripping wet figure of my boss. In his hand was the crumpled remains of his radio. "You're DEAD!" he whispered and he stared at me intensely. To make a long story short he fired me and made me join this site.

For me, I think it was a Yahoo search for "progressive rock message board" or something like that. I'm glad I found it, for sure.
