Just listened to the new Rush album. I always like the hype to die down so I can enjoy something without being swayed by premature judgement. And I didn't even read any reviews. I actually went to the RECORD store this weekend on Record Store Day  and bought it. I have yet to purchase or download anything from the internet.

Best track for me is The Garden. Sublime.

Rush can remind me of stages of my 51 year existence from high school through to the present. If I don't know what I want to listen to I throw on a Rush album. I guess it's like a generation before me putting on a Beatles album.

They don't sound like a burnt out prog band because they were never really a prog band. They're too good for that moniker. They were always a rock band better than most to me.

Being from Canada and growing up in Toronto no less, I can tell you that a lot of Canada except for the north, have no culture. We are a multicultural place of many religions, creeds and ethnicities. As far as music is concerned, RUSH is all we have so no more posting fat woman from Quebec.

Haha thanks! Smile

And no kidding on the first part of your post! First time I saw them back in '08, I saw someone lighting a crack pipe during Passage to Bangkok two rows in front of me. There was no surprise to speak of.

Speaking of which, that's exactly what happened the first time I saw Rush. Not sure how they managed to sneak in whatever they were smoking (my dad didn't even manage to smuggle in some chips and gummy bears. LOL), but they were right in front of me and were talking to eachother the whole show. Tongue
(Snakes and Arrows tour)

And sorta irrelevant at this point, but I'm surprised Bobcaygeon made it in and Little Bones didn't.

Thanks so much! It was pretty freaking sweet, I must say! Thumbs Up They really put on one memorable show, but of course I wasn't expecting anything less!

Review will come when I have a chance to sit down and devote time to piecing together all the great details (no smoke to sift through fortunately). Just about to be traveling and have quite the busy calendar. But review will come, fear not!

Hello to all, I am new to this forum but not new to Rush.  I have seen them 58 times (first show was April '77 in Toledo, Ohio) with the most recent being Austin on the opening night of the '13 Clockwork Angels tour.

Clockwork Angels IMO is Rush's best work in almost two decades.  Among the tracks only Wish Them Well is one that I skip routinely.

Overall I prefer the era that encompasses Power Windows, Grace Under Pressure, Hold Your Fire and Presto.  I don't dislike the earlier stuff but I do think Test For Echo and Counterparts were "uneven" albums with some great moments but others that were not so memorable.

Welcome!

I have been a fan since maybe 1980. They have been my favorite band since that time.

While I like CA, SnA still is my top pick since PoW. CA just falls short on too many songs. I have seen though that many old time fans have embraced this release more readily than others in recent history.

I notice here that we differ. I think Presto, HYF, and RTB are almost garbage. Counterparts redeemed the band for me in that era. Rupert Hine ruined Presto sonically. It could have had more punch, but the tinny high end makes it almost intolerable.
