Topic: The 'The Incident' bashing thread Posted: April 19 2013 at 11:43 |
This thread was opened personally for 'The Incident' haters. As far as I can see, they are always trashing this album each time they see Porcupine Tree's name in any discussion — so I believe they definitely have some natural urge for constant criticism on that record.
Thus, I believe that it would be a right decision to open this official 'The Incident' bashing thread, where all the haters would have a convenient (and totally legit!) opportunity to say how bad this album is, without clogging every other discussion with Steven Wilson's name mentioned.
Good luck with sh*t-throwing!

Well, let me start this discussion... 'Time Flies' is the most boring song Wilson ever wrote.

Well, I won't bash it because I don't think it's bad, but it is my least favorite PT album. The songs all just sort of sit there. Time Flies isn't bad, but as a centerpiece it just sits there in the middle. And then there's the songs on disk 2 that just sit there over on disk 2. Nothing really excites me. I had the same reaction to Fear of a Blank Planet. Deadwing and everything before it excited me. What happened?
I think it was partly me, I just got oversaturated with Wilson. Everything was about Wilson. Too much Wilson.
But it also got predictable. A really quiet spacy part followed by a loud chugging part and over again. The effects and ambiences are all the same.
Maybe I did just bash it.

Me. Got a problem with that or have you been appointed in an "official" capacity around here without me knowing?

^Come on, that was a joke. Don't forget that this thread is in just for fun section. No need to remove each sarcasm!

so... regarding 'The Incident' I don't think it's their best work, one of their worst actually, but I'd still rate it 3 stars, a good album with some great tracks (Time Flies for example). IMO It was a fairly good album that gets the hell beaten out of it just because people put in relation to other Porcupine Tree classics like 'In Absentia' and 'FOABP'... By its own merits I quite enjoy it.

Agreed. There was no need for a title change.
Oh... And I haven't heard the album.

I agree totally with your comments.....I thought Blank Planet was boring as well.....though there are one or two cuts on The Incident where you can actually follow a melody line. Wilson is just writing the same song over and over but I do like most of the Raven which imo is a departure from the PT stuff.
