Admittedly, I didn't fancy Joe's Garage as an album when I was originallly getting into Zappa, but over the years, it has grown on me (same deal with Shiek Yer Bouti) to the point where I think it's one of his best albums, though maybe not as high as it is. I'm actually a little surprised at the negative reaction of JG being so high on the list (note: it is an accumulated amount of ratings, from both original LP releases, and the 2 CD release of all 3 acts.)

Actually I wasn't opposed to nor surprised by how high JG was on the list, I believe that it's a popular album, I just don't share the opinion of the many.
Anyway, it's Zappa. Of course it's good. . I tend to nitpick my favorites sometimes.

Looks like Uncle Meat will be the next Project/Object, similar to MOFO, Lumpy Money, and Greasy Love Songs.

Is that a Sears t-shirt, or is that a real t-shirt?

The project/objects don't really appeal to me, but Uncle Meat might be interesting

I don't know Uncle Meat yet. Which version do you recommend : the Ryko or the last one ? Are they different ?

I don't have any of them, but I would be curious to hear MOFO and GLS for the original vinyl mixes. Lumpy Money sounds more interesting to me, what with all the different versions of WOIIFTM, and the Capitol version of Lumpy Gravy.
They're are both identical, and both have the 'penalty' tracks. However, the recent UMe release is most likely cheaper as the Ryko's are out of print now. I'm really excited, actually, for this new Project/Object release. I'd love to hear the original vinyl mix for Uncle Meat, WITHOUT the penalty tracks. Edited by darkshade - April 16 2013 at 10:51 |

The penalty tracks are on disc 2, they go from the first track until King Kong. If the penalty tracks were not there, the entire album would fit on one disc.

I'll admit, I like the short excerpt from UM on the cd. I tried listening to it once without it and It felt weird. That part 2 though is terribly long and cumbersome.

I kinda doubt it ... the Trust has a fight with a movie studio still going that likely prevents it from releasing anything ... I would, and force MGM/WarnerBros to come after me ... they would lose it in court because all they are doing it is stealing it, and not allowing the artistry of the man to be shown! Gail needs to pull off the "I'm Number One" cover from Mad Magazine to the studio and define the work as Frank's and the Trust's and I seriously doubt that a judge will stand in his throne and not accept this ... and force the movie studio to back down and go home ... and better let this one slide, than lose even more in litigation because they lost it! There are two very good documentaries about the time, place, people, and feelings ... and they are both locked up and hidden ... they are "Let it Be" and "200 Motels". And both are some of the best documents about the time, the place, the people, the insanity, and how the media became a total "nothing" and meaningless ... and that is one of the massive things that we failed to see in 200 Motels ... along with the Tabloid satire, which is massive! The film also ushered video as a great alternative for effects and ideas. Unffortunately Gail is not strong on film, and neither does she understand this film, and its time and place ... in the end, she was just another of the girls, that got lucky and had fun with Frank the rest of his life. She has no idea, concept (at least has not show any inclination in that area) that even understands the "art form" and "its history ... she was just a fan that got really lucky, if not a groupie. And I think this is the hard part for her, and she is not willing, or capable of even realizing what the Varese thing is about ... she was in love with the guitar god on teh stage ... end of story! But she has done a lot, and put up with a lot of crap over it all ... so I guess it's not all bad, but 200 Motels needs to be remastered and redone ... and I would start by releasing the soundtrack nice and clean ... and hopefuly force the studio hands about the film ... no money for them when the film is not available and Toni's version is horrendous!

Hot Rats at #1 doesn't surprise me...but...the lack of "YCDTOSA Vol II - The Helsinki Concert" does. I think this release along with "We're Only in it for the Money" and "Studio Tan" are the most prog-like releases in the entire catalog.

I have the CD reissue from the late 90's (is that the Ryko one?) and it has the 37+ minute "Uncle Meat Film Excerpt" which I find hilarious...I'd highly recommend getting that one... I'm using the chicken to measure it...

I ordered Feeding The Monkies At Ma Maison last night. Damn does the Barfko Swill store charge a lot for shipping, almost 8 bucks with tax. But I am excited as hell to get this album. Most reviews I've read are very positive.
