I definitely prefer BC&SL

ADToE is so lackluster. It feels like I'm listening to a DT tribute band...

Too bad for you.  I'd put it right up there with Images and Words, and it's a nice feeling to enjoy it so much.

Me too.  The melodies are there, but it is a their most complicated as far as changes go.  Way beyond rush.

No-one even compared it Rush. That's irrelevant. Like me saying ADToE is less enjoyable than bacon or something (which is true)...

LOL, agreed. I didn't liked it very much as well, but I can safely say it has grown on me for me to at  least not hate it anymore. It isn't par to their other releases, though (not even FiI, in my opinion).

I kinda was turned of after ADTOE. The main reason is that i'm missing the "spark" in the songs. To me it sounds like they didn't record it with the enthusiasm and passion with the other albums. I side with the ones that agree they perhaps should have taken a break for a while. ADTOE has some great songs on them, don't get me wrong, but it just isn't it.

Hi everyone, I interviewed Mike Portnoy a few days ago when Adrenaline Mob played in Manchester, just thought that you might like to watch it. He does mention some things about Dream Theater, mainly about the differences between him leading DT and how he plays much more of a strictly-musician role in Adrenaline Mob and his other projects. Would be awesome if you could let me know what you think of it :)

"Images and Words" and "Awake" are still my favorite albums of them, but has not yet heard all. The combination of Metal and Prog is a compelling issue for me. This last album was not so different from what they were doing over the years. I think the later will be even better due to a greater understanding of "Mike Mangini" with the rest of the band.

In regards to future YTSEJAM recordings:

From Portnoy himself tonight:

Simply put: I am no longer at liberty to legally "release" any more of the 25 year DT archives I have in my possession...
If the band is continuing with YJR (as I've seen them say), then it will obviously only be "post-MP" stuff as they actually don't even have any unreleased stuff from 1985-2010...that is all here in my possession...

Why can't DT and MP just find an agreement for this? Unhappy

Looks like the new album is going to feature the band's first instrumental since Train of Thought.
Plus, John Myung speaks!

They all look really stiff and awkward in that video.

I suppose it's better than what my band looked like last time we did an interview LOL.

Hopefully this album they take a bit of a new direction, I'm a little bit sick of the sound that they've been using for the last 5 or so albums.

They need to come out with a killer album in my mind.....As an album, ADTOE was mediocre at best. There has been a lot of great stuff released these past 2 yrs and DT is at the bottom of the barrel looking up, seems to me.

Looking forward to something spectacular, from a seasoned group.

Maybe the rest of the band gets to hear Myung talk just as much as we do. Wink
