Maybe, but I'm not very fond of "Hold Your Fire".

Funnily enough, that's the album that got me into Rush!  Big smile  I like it.

I dunno, I tend to find a lot of the albums that are considered "bad" aren't as bad as people make them out to be. Even Love Beach isn't too bad IMO if you can get past some of the lyrics (seriously though, "Taste of My Love" sounds like lyrics for Spinal Tap).

That said, Yes' Open Your Eyes has to be a top contender.

We've had a couple of Kansas albums mentioned already (ignoring the 'all albums' post), but I really feel their most unlistenable effort was In the Spirit of Things.  Ghosts, Rainmaker, and Bells of St. James are tolerable-to-decent, but the rest sounds much more hopelessly AOR than Power, which I actually enjoy.  It's an album of huge, gorged, totally unlovely choruses.

I should state that I don't consider Drastic Measures to be a Kansas record.  No Walsh + No Violin + barely any Livgren = not Kansas.

I love Hold Your Fire. But I have played it to death.

But they're a useful guide for 'what to avoid' - imagine the unsuspecting buyer finding a copy of "Love Beach" and thinking "well it's ELP, and there's a really long track  on it - I'll buy it!"

^ That's not a very good way to think about the "sucking" albums, I think. Some people like crap. I like crap.

Im not sure, but i remember listning to (part of) a very late effort by genesis, prob the last one.
Was not my cupa tea. So compared to how great Genesis was, its the worst effort from a major Prog band, i can come up with, and a little unfair, as i dont even know the whole album
Prog is whatevey you want it to be. So dont diss other peoples prog, and they wont diss yours

Why a new poll? All releases are reviewed on this site (some to ad nauseum proportions). Generally, there seems to be a consensus reached on most.

Hilarious post, Doug!  Thanks! Clap

My favorite band, Yes, stunk it up more than a few times...."Big Generator" makes 90125 sound like CTTE!  And, "Union" was nicknamed "Onion" by the band because it made their eyes water whenever they heard it!

It's all better than Justin Bieber, right?
