Waters recalled, “Clare came into the studio one day, and we said, ‘There's no lyrics. It's about dying—have a bit of a sing on that, girl.’ I think she only did one take. And we all said, ‘Wow, that's that done. Here's your 60 quid.’” (By Torry’s recollection, it was two and a half takes, and 30 quid.)

LOL

Nice.  I don't really trust people's recollections as I get older (and friend constantly contest my recollections of shared events, while I contest theirs LOL ).  I've heard at least 3 different recollections of Torry's time in the studio with Floyd (the only thing that seems certain is that she was brought in, sang the part, and was paid some amount or other).

True that. LOL

Torry also recollects that it was only Gilmour who actually spoeke to her and gave instructions. The others didn't even give her a glance.
Charming guys. LOL

It's the same as any other version they were playing live in 1969, but shorter.  If you can find any such thing anywhere somehow....

I just adore them - everything for me is perfect - The music, the legend, the packaging and the incredible legacy. Quite a heady mix!

I just read somethin about Bob Ezrin during the recording of "AMLOR". He suposedly just dicovered Rap at that time, and came to Gilmour showing him his new beloved music and told him he should include some of that on the album, for he though Rap would sound very cool with a rock beat. Gilmour answered him that that would be terrible.

I'm surprised this hasn't come up:

From Dark Globe, Julian Palacios' biography (page 207) of Syd Barrett:

'Infused with a spirit of sudden discovery, 'Astronomy Domine' was a continual work in progress. Barrett tinkered with the song's construction right until the recording session, inspired by a single issued that week by American garage psychers the Electric Prunes. Its A-side, 'Get Me To The World On Time', was a minor hit climbing Radio London's chart. However, Barrett was riveted by the B-side, 'Are You Loving Me More (But Enjoying It Less)', he lifted the song's intro wholesale for 'Astronomy Domine'.'

The first Electric Prunes lp which is very psychedelic came out four months before the first Floyd album.

It's true the British did excellent prog but they probably didn't originate as much as one might think.

Ah that old chestnut.  This was before that, and that was before this.  Such discussions usually end up with Bach or Opera

Pink Floyd were playing Astronomy Domine in 1966.  Here's a setlist from that year:
1. Pink Theme
2. Let's Roll Another One
3. Gimme a Break
4. Piggy Back
5. Stoned Alone
6. I Can Tell
7. The Gnome
8. Interstellar Overdrive
9. Lucy Leave
10. Take Up Thy Stethoscope and Walk
11. Flapdoodle Dealing
12. Snowing
13. Matilda Mother
14. Pow R. Toc H.
15. Astronomy Domine

That setlist is similar to the IT benefit gig at All Saints Church Hall setlist from 30th September 1966, predating the release of Get Me To The World On Time by a couple of months. A recording was made of that gig but I know of no copies of it, though there are early live undated recordings of Astronomie Domine around that have the bass-guitar intro rather than the later organ intro. Seeing that Floyd used it to close the gigs would suggest it was pretty well developed as a song by then. There is no denying the intro to Are You Loving Me More is similar, but it is far from a "wholesale lift" and aside from that there is little comparison between the two.
What?

A bit like comparing Interstellar Overdrive to Steptoe & Son, maybe?

Quite.

That setlist contains most of Piper, Snowing was renamed Flaming (and Let's Roll Another One became Candy And A Current Bun)
What?
