You did that?! ... Wow ... you've done the shining lights very well! Amazing. I'm impressed.

Yeah, I also forgot to mention that I've never really had or known any reason for uploading some images of myself for the avatar. I'd probably be a pretentious creep in a velvet graduation robe, playing my Yamaha, giving a creepy-ass smile a la Jack Nicholson ... or like a jackass. Or I might just as well upload a graduation photo of myself ... or when I was seven-eight years old with my mom.

Thank you. It was painted on the reverse side of a sheet of glass using car touch-up aerosol paint, the shining lights is the easy part, the rest was more difficult.

I think my first avatar when I joined was this, a simplistic drawing I made during a time when I was rendering Frank Zappa song titles in graphic form. This one is "Tryin' to Grow a Chin": Much later, after I became more regular on the forums, I focused on Jerney Kaagman, the voluptuous singer from the old Dutch band Earth & Fire: I still bring Jerney in and out of my avatar rotation, I think she's my "default" avatar choice, cause she's awesome. I've also gone through a brief Eleanor Friedberger phase (from contemporary weird indie band Fiery Furnaces): ...........My beloved cat Ruthie: .... occasionally me playing with my band on stage: ... and reclusive outsider musician Jandek: ... and currently using one of my personal "sleeveface" photos, me posing behind a Descendents album cover:

I love your drawing Steve So obvious and naive, I think Frankie-boy would've loved it.
For some reason I do tend to associate you with Jenny, I don't know what that says about me, - or you for that matter

I've only ever used the one though in reference to no one ever using a picture of themselves, this one . . . kind of is. I asked a buddy of mine to draw a picture of me . . . as a catfish. Amusingly enough, I had the white turtle neck and black jacket combo on just yesterday.
I have often considered changing the background, replacing the blue with various pictures, maybe cool locations like Wal-Mart or Sunocco, A picture of The Catfish Man in the Moon.

Why do you change your avatars all the time? Is it really important? I'm not trying to be snotty here, it's a serious question, what have I missed? How often do you recommend people to change their avatars? No, I'm not that serious. But still...

Only this one so far: I'm planning on changing it to a photo mosaic of myself made up of prog album covers. Just have to find a good picture of myself. Could take a while...

I've considered this question a lot myself. I was a regular on a prior forum for several years, and through that whole time, I had just one avatar - a picture of Charlie Brown looking sad. After a while I became inseparable from that avatar, and had had it so long I didn't feel right changing it, because that's how everyone knew me. So when I came here, I decided to see what it would be like if I didn't tie myself down to any one avatar, so that I could freely move from one to the other and hopefully people would still "recognize" me independently of my avatar. It's worked out pretty well, I think, and I've enjoyed changing it up every few weeks depending on my whims. Either way is fine (one avatar or many), but I decided to keep it loose and flexible here.

God, I'm boring - only ever used the one:
Even on other forums, it's the same... still, makes it easier to find your posts when skipping through threads
