Bands prog fans generally like but you don't

Eloy springs to mind. I've come to, if nothing else, at least appreciate Ocean to some extent after numerous listens just to "get it", but Dawn, Planets and a couple of others I've heard haven't jibed with me for some reason.

All the modern epigones of classic-era prog, including The Flower Kings, Anekdoten & all the others. I'm surprised that there's so much fans of definitely second-grade music that simply stands in the shadows of Genesis, Yes, Crimson & other giants.

Dream Theater. For me it's kinda boring and soulless, and as they playing music just for guitarists, the thechincal side is the only side of them you might be interested in (and I'm not into all the techincally marvellous guitar w**king, sorry for rude words).

The Soft Machine. Smells like not my cup of tea.

Moreover, I think I'm not a fan of the whole Progressive Metal category. Meanwhile, I'm a huge fan of Heavy Prog and Tech/Extreme/Experimental/Post-Metal

I just don't get Genesis. I have tried and tried but they are  a bit too, how-would-you-say, soft for my liking. Sorry Genesis fans.

^ Actually, Steven admitted that he doesn't really know much about sound tech. He lets his audio engineer handle such matters: Steven has an idea, a sound in his head, and he has to get it out, and his pal Mr. Sound Engineer is there to help him with that.

Yeah I know his not an engineer but I remember reading he's quite wanted for mixing or helping an album to sound good. Orphaned Land's last album is a great example.

I'm not convinced Eno made Music for airports to actually be listened to with any real attention. There's damn near nothing going on, and that the whole point. The very slight subtle changes and evolutions in the tracks are supposed to just be 'felt' at some wierd drowsy level. IMO. I use that album to help me sleep, and it often works. I like it for that reason.


Anyway, there aren't any prog bands I've heard and actually think are awful. There are some I just don't don't bother with having heard maybe one album, and it's not really done anything for me. I'm pretty indifferent to Transatlantic and Caravan. I can take or leave TMV too. I'm generally not interested in bands who set out to sound like classic prog bands, unless they're actual good quality tribute acts.

On the non prog front I can't stand The Eagles. I would go as far as saying Hotel California is among my least favourite songs of all time. Bob Dylan I find intolerable too.
