Sounds completely mad to me. If anything, Krautrock seems like one of the most far reaching, experimental and innovative branches of the rock Tree. In terms of 'progressive' - like in real progressive, pushing the envelope, breaching through the mental barriers of what we thought we knew about music, then personally I find this genre to be one of most deserving of those accolades. Whether one digs it or not is another matter altogether, a simple question of taste.

I hate when music lovers turn snobbish, but luckily so we don't really get that here. You and me both dig punk, post punk, krautrock as well as everything else under sun...... nearly.

this is literally my favourite album right now. i returned to Can after a many-year hiatus and i am so glad i stumbled upon them again. i can't put to words how much i love them, and i really wish they released more stuff in the vein of tago mago and future days. their rhythmic intensity, instrumental complexity, psychedelicism and avant-garde style is simply transcendental. these guys define psychedelic music, and they capture everything that good music means to me. i'm so grateful to be living at a time where i can access this music.

Speaking from a drummer's point of view: I absolutely adore Jaki as well. His last name directly translated into English actually means lovetime. I have always loved that fact for some reason...
Anyway if you dig his style, more specifically on Future Days, then I wholeheartedly recommend you try out the next Soon over Babaluma, where he perfected that hypnotic calypso vibe.

Also: if anybody out there is interested in some new music in the rocking krautrock vein, then try out Seven that Spells that literally will melt your brain away in a jiffy. I just got last years Superautobahn after reading Eetu's brilliant review.

You know Pierre, I've really been digging those post punk vids of yours. Also helps that I'm a huge fan of punk in general though...

Regarding Can, I think I Iove every album of theirs up to Landed, and the next isn't really bad actually.

Heh - I have so many opposites working alongside each other in terms of music. I consider myself a lucky man to appreciate such a widespread palette Smile

Hell I like Billy Holiday, Cannibal Corpse, Wu Tang Clan, Infected Mushroom, Michael J, Captain Beefheart, Faust, The Smiths, Marilyn Manson, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Area, James Brown, Amon Düül ll, Prodigy, Stockhausen, Dolly Parton, Neurosis, PFM, Dr. Dre, Grease, Pharaoh Sanders and the list goes on.

You have just made me realise, that I need to ditch the Blood, Sweat and Tears album for this vid LOL

And you're right about the live aspect of Amon Düül ll. It should also be pretty obvious, when you listen to the first three albums, that the band was all about improv and jamming, which in essence actually just was them live in the studio. Though much more "polished"(if one could ever attach such a word with ADll LOL

), than this video. There is a rawness to it, that I really appreciate.
