It did take me quite a while to get into King Crimson. I don't even recall where I first actually gained the interest, or why I even persisted so much, but I am now glad I did.

I don't get what? The fact that you're trying so hard is very pleasing, but you don't get it in the end, you don't get it and there's nothing you can do about it. Furthermore, it's completely all right not to like King Crimson, it's not like someone would have an awful taste if they didn't like them. It's just music, everything is subjective, and the only measurement of its quality essentially is the level of enjoyment it gives to you. That said, it doesn't mean you must stop trying. Sometimes it happens that the album/artist clicks with you after a month, a year or even a few years of unsuccessful attempts, and it's simply wonderful when it happens. Best of luck.

Sides One and Two of TFTO, and all of "The Yes Album" which was released on this date in 1971!!  What an amazing work that was.
