Hmmmm, this is a difficult one - I haven't actually listened to Tormato for more than a decade....Drama possibly once within the past five years? Drama is better than Tormato but it's still not proper Yes...sort of Buggles-prog.....Who can take Trevor Horn seriously!!! If I go to the prog-rack of pleasure and cast my eye upon the Yes section.....why would I spin Tormato/Drama when I have the incomparible TFTO or CTTE or Relayer or GFTO........Tormato is such a let down after GFTO - it makes you wonder if it was just chucked out to gather in some cash......Even the title and cover are utter sh*te...Hipgnosis - hold your heads in shame you set of arty-farty fook-wits...... Anyway that made me feel better - catharsis is such a lovely word don't you think....... Listeneing to Perilous as I type - very Yes like but better than Tormato/Drama - Oh yes indeed......

this is a great point i find myself running into. as time goes on with my favorite artists i become less and less of a completist. if i want to listen to an artist, i go for the good stuff. life's too short for 'trying' to get into all of it. in this case, for me, Tormato is the good stuff...cover and all :-) this part, a rant...feel free to quit reading........now! along the same lines, as you've noticed, i've been asking for y'all's opinions about the extend TFK family catalog. i really want to support the band and have this fantasy of a perfect collection of all things TFK, but it's not gonna happen. so much is out of print and some, like bodin's isn't even available for legitimate download. also, the stuff that really really slays me is the stuff Roine and/or HAsse are involved in. I absolutely love HFMC. TA are okay, AoM are Roine's alter ego and excellent and of course TFK are brilliant. i just don't seem to need all the rest, at this point anyway. i know i'll still dabble, but there are issues i have with each side project that just keep them from being great. it's usually the singers anyway, sorry to ramble. i'm just so damn serious about my music listening. i swear, if i didn't have it, i'd be hard pressed to find anything else worth living for...aside from the good times with wife and kids, of course. oh, and good naps

Well, for the past couple of fridays I've completed my listening stint with "The Count of Tuscany" - the start of which is as good as anything I have in my collection - I just love the drumming - yeah - it's basically Dream Theater saying to Rush....Tell you What - this is what YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN FOOKIN WRITING....instead of all that synth pop sh*te after MP....and I know that i'm going to get loads of stick from post 80's Rush fan-boys...but hey - Signals was a crock of sh*te so that it's - and I've checked out a lot of the track lengths post MP and I don't think there is one track longer than seven minutes...I may be wrong...but hey Sue me.....Good Night....

Listen to A Place in the Queue. And dismissing Signals as a crockpot of sh*t must be coming from someone who only listens to prog

COMM, A Place In The Queue, or the debut. However, they are very consistent, so they're all good on some level. |

I must buy some of "The tangent", my dismissal of Signals is obviously a direct comparison of the subliminal works that preceded it.....I despair that a band of such talent spent the next 30 years producing commercial dirge, surely a double CD revisiting mid 70's pomp wouldn't have been too much trouble for them.......Sad Really....

yeah, i find it utterly fascinating how bands lose their muse. rush lost it long long ago, as did Yes. it's really too bad. artists tend to have a period of 10 years where they effortlessley create amazing works and then spend a good 30 trying to recapture the magic. the thing with these bands is that it's the production. rush working with some alt rock producer does them no favors. they need to record bass, drums and guitar and vocals. no over dubs, no compressioin, no reverb...NOTHING. same with Yes. if they did this, they'd be hailed more than they are for the drivel they've been putting out for years. i wanna hear ged's bass up front and alex's guitar awash in flange panning the entire speaker set up. and i want a fat snare right in the middle with toms panning as well. i've found rick ruben's work interesting over the last few decades as he's produced these so-called masterpieces by older artists. the truth is, he does nothing. he under produces and johnny cash's acoustic album is hailed as a masterpiece. i'm just absolutely amazed at how stupid artists are about their own craft sometimes.

I noticed the new Rush album is heavily compressed. Funnily enough, I think The Flower Kings have been one of the most consistent bands. Sum of No Evil and Banks of Eden are pretty close in quality to Back In the World or Retropolis.

TFK albums are a bit compressed, but nothing like the last 3 Rush albums. good point.

Good music is good music, and post-MP has a lot of it. Their musicianship was being executed in the albums very well. Some of Geddy's best bass work is after Moving Pictures. Sure the music isn't like Cygnus X-1, but songs like The Analog Kid, Leave That Thing Alone, Force Ten, etc etc are still great songs. Why would a band want to keep making the same music for 40 years? I know i wouldn't. That's why a lot of these retro bands sound so cheesy, too bad they can't really keep up with modern music. ...........Sad Really....

Say what you will, I have "Roll the Bones" in my top fifty favorite albums so I'm with you Horizons, there's a lot of good stuff after Moving Pictures. I've found that trying to convince Barney of your point of view is kind of like getting a score of grasshoppers to synchronize their jumps . . . it just ain't going to happen. Once he has an idea in his head, there's no shiftin' it.
