Also, I'm not saying that I am against the old Hammond / Mellotron sounds, I just prefer the neo sounds. Kind of like I prefer "Paradox Hotel" over "Stardust We Are". Both are among my top albums. I think I gave Nexus a day on Spotify a while back and they were decent.

Sure sounds like you do hate classic keyboards, I bet you have a cheesy Casio keyboard under your bed and you
play, Todd Rundgren's "I don't wanna work...." while nobody is watching. Am I close on this???
Ok, here's the serious portion of this. I understand how some can say "Harvest" is derivative of Genesis, but I have learned you can criticize all bands if you wanted to on that basis. All groups have influences. For me I hate derivative prog, like World Trade or Starcastle, IQ stands on it own to me. My only complaint is that the guitar player's tone sucks. Very muddy & compressed sounding.
Oh, and nobody can prefer anything over Stardust We Are, here in this FK thread, that is plain and simple heresy.
Your penance for this transgression: Yep, you guessed it. Play The Chicken Farmer Song five times very loud.

Hey Tom (Ozric),
Welcome to our little neck of the internet. I think Craig mentioned this above, but yeah, Raising the Imperial is fantastic and Jonas Reingold's fretless work is phenomenal on that one. The whole CD is enjoyable to my ears but yeah, that's a good one.
Here's hoping that they write another CD sooner rather than later, five years is a long wait. |
Agreed !! And newbie Felix L on the dums was a rare find - he's does a fantastic job and I hope he sticks around for a while - get it 'sticks' - drums........

But DT wouldn't be DT without James' vocals.
I was very disappointed in not getting a BC&SL tour DVD, especially because I'm sure we would have gotten the full performance of the 12-Step Suite included. There are rumors we might get a performance of The Count of Tuscany on the new DT DVD on a bonus disc since they performed that song, along with The Great Debate, during the summer 2011 portion of the ADTOE tour.
|
See now that sounds good! I'd love to get a good live version from the great debate. And James goes with DT like bread with peanut butter.

Points for the obscure food analogy.

Wow, I almost missed your cymbalism there. (oh no, make his stop, please make him stop) All punny business aside, I agree, he really shines on the CD and I'm hoping for at least two albums. I wrote a review of the CD not too long ago and refered to the return of the 'classic' line up of Stolt, Froeberg, Reingold, 'new guy on drums' and Bodin.

Glad to see you guys 'drumming' up support for Felix. I wonder how he got 'snared' into the TFK camp. I hope he's enjoying his 'brush' with prog fame! I bet he's getting a 'double kick' out of he whole thing!

Silly puns aside, I'm still waiting to hear what's so great about him. He seems solid, but I don't get much from his drumming. Certainly not like I did from Salazar or Zoltan (of course, there are very very few prog drummers that come anywhere close to Zoltan in my book). The best I can do is say he's a better fit for the band than Marcus was (and Marcus was also a "solid" drummer that didn't really do much for me.....except on the live Circus Brimstone album and the two Bodin albums.......I always wonder why he sounds so "proggy" on those, but not with TFK's).

I quite caffeine myself about 5 years ago (except for dark chocolate.......life is not worth living without that ). Not had any problems at all. I find that the exercise of walking 3 kilometers to work every morning gives me energy to keep awake during the day. No more insomnia since then either. The headaches were killer though (I first quite coffee, then after nearly 3 days of splitting headaches started drinking regular tea for roughly a year......when I quite the tea there were no headaches, just some tiredness for a few days). I still do have some caffeine from time to time (aside from the chocolate, which I don't have every day anyway).......occasional green tea, occasional 3 or 4 sips of my girlfriends coffee on the weekends.

Yeah, I thought I was being good by comparing my "two small cups" of coffee to the addicts at work that have three or more LARGE cups of coffee each morning. But no. then when I realised how much caffeine is in cola and chocolate, as you mentioned.... that makes for way too much caffeine. Funny, I will be just like you. I will hold on to my chocolate until they give me last rites. Everything else has to go though...
Harvest of Souls is a great song, isn't it?
Walking 3 kilometers to work??? I thought you lived in the States? What's with the silly Euro-talk?
(But....That is AWESOME you have that good exercise in the morning every day! )

Other than the occasional caffeine laced soda pop when eating out I am pretty much caffeine free. I very rarely drink coffee or tea and when I do it is usually of the unleaded variety.

Glad to see HFMC on that list. i pretty much agree, but i think TFK beats BBT...just my opinion. The other interesting thing is how some of the top albums were also the biggest disappointments! hilarious. sign of a good album is whether its polarizing or not :-)
i'm psyched to hear the setlists for the impending tour with morse. i need to recheck when it starts. the boys must be busy practicing. i can't imagine their rehearsals. i can just hear roine saying...'okay, let's just run through Numbers one more time and call it a day'....everyone groans!
btw, felix doesn't seem to have a 'sound' like zoltan or portnoy. he holds his own though. the live footage i've seen he's a bit stiff, but that was early so i'm sure he and the band are more loosened up now.
as Nove said, long live the kings!
