Also, I'm curious as to what you guys think of the supposed tweet from Ron Paul about Chris Kyle's death.
My personal feeling is that he chose his wording extremely poorly on Twitter, but I think his Facebook post responding to it clarified what he was trying to say much better. |

Had to look all this up as I have no idea what any of it was
Hmmm yeah at first read that certainly doesn't coem across very well. The fact that PTSD was mentioned sheds some light though. He probably didn't word it very well but my guess is the point was something about the war mentality and what not.
Regardless, its something I've always strongly believed....plenty of people go throug the whole military/war thing fine. But many don't and I think a lot are screwed up at least in some way due to it.
Numerous military people I've met personally, even though they were fine always had some "oddity" about them, especially ones that lived their life in the shadow of the army. Controversial maybe but I do think being in there and spending lots of time dedicating your life to the military could deff do bad things to a psyche.

Oh, since we touched and the subject and I know Dean does lurk around these parts...
My current manager is actually a really good dude, and just got my brother a job. I mentioned ages ago "keep him in mind if you see an opening" ya know, the usual sh*t not expecting anything. He not only remembered but has fowarded his resume to a new opening, and it just came through. I didn't ask or was even aware.
He's big team too, head of the entire New Jersey team. So yeah, there are good managers/bosses just like there are good politicians. No matter how corrupting a system may be, there will always be the good.

Congrats to Pat on his PhD candidacy! I don't think I could stomach one in Economics, although I would be interested in getting one in Folklore and Mythology or Western Esoterica someday. ![Wink Wink](smileys/smiley2.gif) The Ron Paul comment was insensitive, but I get what he was trying to say. The drone thing is horrifying and it shocks me that the supposedly anti-war left aren't making a peep about it. Imagine if this had been Bush.

Political Science. Im f**ked brah Indeed llama. What's sad is... I doubt the anti war left really knows. They just know there are drones and just like the video said, we're told they are surgical and aim directly for targets, not just indiscriminate warfare. I guess the drones are preferable. They at least (attempt) to take out as minimal a number of innocents as possible, and it is concentrated...in theory. Not defending it in any way, just saying it is better than full out war. 881 civilians killed since 2004, very sad but compare it to the Iraq war and occupation. And as for the mentality that we waltz around countries with our drones....I am pretty sure they are very aware and OK with it. They dont want the bad guys hanging around either, and certainly let the US do it. All that being said, he was right...when Dems and Reps agree its always a bad thing ![LOL LOL](smileys/smiley36.gif) and the last part sounds a bit paranoid but its a disturbing thing to contemplate... the idea of drones hovering over the US isn't just pure dystopia fiction

I was a poly sci major. I'd suggest changing course unless you're planning on going to law school or want to follow in my footsteps and only have a steady job in the summer, as a caddie.

Well its a little late, I already am graduated. Yes, I found out very quickly poli sci = law school, government, or nothing. Ooooor accept a crap job, which is what I've done with it ![Cry Cry](smileys/smiley19.gif) We are damned idealists and art lovers! We go with what we like.... It was dumb. I should've just done business, or better yet finance. Make a lot of money in a relatively short time then kick back ![LOL LOL](smileys/smiley36.gif) but no I went with what I found interesting. Just I dont wanna do law school, government jobs proved to be very difficult...at least in NJ and PA and I dont want that anyway.

^^^Before switching to Accounting, I did a year in Philosophy. Loved it, but figured there wasn't much future in that (teaching jobs are hard to come by) and I didn't want to end up sweeping the elephant cage at the zoo. Although, Philosophy would have been fine going into law school, which is what I eventually did anyway. Still, Accounting provides a much nicer fall-back position.

Nah its true, Philosophy THAT is the most useless. Poli Sci isnt bad, just very limited and I wish I knew years ago it pretty much was just space filler for those who wanna do law school. Its all good, I'll keep working my crappy service job and keep saving, do my masters and try to teach. Kean in NJ has a good rep for teaching (though they came very close to losing accreditation :/ )so that may be a good spring board. Even my county college is very well regarded, much as Rutgers, so I think I have realistic chances to start with.

Ultimately I'm glad I went with Finance. There's a lot of potential career opportunities with it (same with Accounting). I had enough Accounting after 2 classes of it though, so... ![LOL LOL](smileys/smiley36.gif)
Right now though, I'm working for a major grocery chain (not going to say which one, but you've probably heard of it and it isn't Wal-Mart), and I'm going to be getting into their co-management program soon. Basically, I'll have to spend a few years in the stores learning how they operate, which makes sense to me. And then after that I can move up to corporate and use my degree. Plus I think it's much more secure than a big investment firm or insurance company with my degree, because 1) people will always need to eat and 2) at said investment firm or insurance company they could about let me go at any time whenever they wanted if they felt they didn't need me.
So hopefully I'll get promoted a bit, find a job I like, and make a comfortable living for myself and my future family. At least that's the plan.

As I've made close to 250 posts in this thread I'd view that as more than just lurking but that is petty pedantry.
Your original observation that managers are generally inefficient, (useless at best) and get drunk with "power" and more concerned with being a boss than actually just managing was as accurate as any other generalisation, therefore any conclusion or extrapolation you draw from that regarding any form of management, be that of your favourite sports team, the economy or government is as likely to be just as accurate.

Oh they'd be screaming about if a Rep were in office, or even an Indie. But presumably the far Left are concerned, and the thinking Left as well if they have integrity.

A cursory google of "democrats against drones" suggests that there isn't a partisan split of approval/disaproval, I'm not sure that some liberals and democrats speaking out against their use constitutes "not a peep".
