Besides Steve didn't call people who dislike it intellectually lazy, he called that to people who continually slam it. It gets boring to read too

Ha ha Invisible Cruth is crap..ha ha.

I believe it's lazy, because being capable musicians, they ceased to search for quality and went for easy money.

Lately it seems offensive to love Prog, people call Prog lovers by many names, from arrogant, self indulgent to Prog snobs, and seem to forget we are here because our common love for Prog.

But at the end, allow people to voice their opinions about the album, this is not personal, honestly i prefer using it as a Frisbee than listening it.

Iván

The album is quality.

I find most Prog fans insufferable most of  the time.

Then it must be a torture for you to be in a prog site where most people are Prog fans.

Sounds like masochism, I wouldn't join a Pop site, because I have very little in common with Pop fans.

It's funny, how it's an embarrassment  to be a Prog fan even in a Prog site created for Prog fans.

But it's your option.

Iván

I am not sure Genesis were ever in search of any elusive 'musical quality' in the sense Ivan seems to suggest.   Even when their music was more complex and ambitious, that was never the point of their music and it was always more accessible than ELP or KC, even Yes or JT at times.   I personally do not regard Invisible Touch as a masterpiece nor do I consider pop Genesis particularly masterful....mainly, I find Collins's singing too dull for me to dig that kind of music.   But I do have to point out that it's not as if they transformed overnight from Dave Brubeck to Debbie Gibson.   Even IT is still proper songs, not just a collection of dance beats.  Only the 'clothes' are distinctly 80s.  So what?  Fans have no monopoly on what sounds an artist can use.

If Tonight, Tonight was on a Peter Gabriel album, then watch the ratings on the website shoot through the roof.

One thing to say you dislike their later work and quite another to allege selling out or betrayal of the fans.    Even if they did want to make pop music because the label wanted it, the very act of doing so is not a sellout.  It's their decision and choosing not to listen is enough to convey you do not agree with that decision.

*sigh* arguing with Zealots is kind of like swimming in Macaroni and Cheese.  It's a lot of effort for almost no reward and you still end up covered in goo.

Ivan,

I reject your ability to speak for my generation.

It is absolutely your right to hate the album, I don't dispute your hatred of it.  As a lawyer though, I would expect you to not simply discount eye witness accounts of an event or an era.  Seriously man, I'm not lying to you, it had an influence on people that are ten years younger.

With that being said, I'm done arguing the point.

Which is a 2008 album...and the point is?   Never said Gabriel doesn't get bad ratings on the website.   Just that Tonight is not sonically so far removed from Gabriel's 80s work.   Your reaction is probably much more to the fact that Genesis had embraced an 80s sound.   It was alright for Gabriel to do so, apparently.

Well, I disagree, i know m,any people of your age, I taught them in the university, and miost of those who loved Invisible Touch, will never listen Prog.

And it's not hatred properly said, it's dislike, repulsion.

I'm sure that if anybody said that he hates Trilogy or Hybris, nobody will react so vehemently

As I said before, it's easier to express your hate for a Prog album than your dislike for a non Prog album even here in Prog Archives.

And does it not suffice to that end to say that they dislike the album and would never want to listen to a new Genesis album again, and such?   Where do questions on artistic integrity come into the picture here?  Not giving one set of fans what they heard on previous albums is not a lack of artistic integrity.   If a band turn over musical decisions to the producer or the label, that's a lack of artistic integrity.  I believe Dave Mustaine did so at one point and admitted to it but Banks & Co have always stood by their music.
