Watership Down vs the Secret of NIMH

I've tried watching Watership Down several times but for some reason the movie is completely unappealing to me. I read the book in middle school but I've mostly forgot everything. I remember liking The Secret of Nimh, but I don't remember liking the book much.

I really liked the book Watership Down, but I hated The Rats of Nimh (which I read in 5th grade) with a passion.  I remember liking the movie better than the book, but I'll still vote for Watership Down.

I started reading Shardik, but never finished.

I don't like such generalisations.  People relate to different kind of stories, characters and styles/ traditions of animation. Some people have rodent phobias too. ;)  I liked the film, though -- I just wasn't terribly enraptured by it.  I enjoyed the look-of-it, but none of the characters really resonated with me that much (found the characters a bit superficial).  The plot development didn't work as well for me as it could have too, and it didn't evoke as much of a sense of wonder as I might have liked.  Actually, I'm not really an animation lover per se, I just love lots of films that are animated.  I still thought it was good, but it didn't really move me.

IMO, the Secret of NIMH is few of the only movies that reaces Studio Gibli qualiys in heart felt action and adventure, and entertainment, it is sucha  wonderfull film, that triggers your imagination and gives you a endorfined indused ride of so much aspects and colourisation its almost staggering

only 98% approval on Rottan Tomatos, don't say much of what to aspect for this  movies overall quality

Thanks, I''ll look into the book.  I doubt that I'll prefer the novel Plague Dogs to the novel Watership Down despite considerably preferring the film version of the Plague Dogs to the film version of Watership Down.

I did prefer the book of Watership Down to the film, which is almost always the case; however, I still liked the animated film considerably.  I prefer the Watership Down film to Secret of Nimh. The Secret of Nimh I only watched fairly recently, as it was something I chose to watch with the kids.  I'm often on the look-out for good animated films to watch with them.  They were a bit bored with The Secret of Nimh, but then they're both more into animé since I reared them on Ghibli (Summer Wars was a particular fave of theirs outside Ghibli, and I loved it too)

I first watched Watership Down double-billed with  The Plague Dogs animated film on television, also based on a novel by Watership Down writer Richard Adams and the film was written and directed by Rosen who also did Watership Down and also "stars' the voce of John Hurt , but I preferred the The Plague Dogs film (in that case I haven't read the novel, but should). Plague Dogs I found really excellent.  It may have helped that I hadn't read the novel. 

I'd like to do a little animated poll featuring some of my favourites too as having kids really rekindled my interest in animated film.
