Ken, those two guys you mention are both superb reviewers (and Dave I know well enough now to say he is just the best guy!), but I have to say I really liked some of the observations you made about prog/folk reviewing in your current Claire Louise review, especialy in that first paragraph!
Oh, and you totally sold me on the album too! ![]() |

Thank you man, that means a lot coming from you. I remember even before joining PA, reading your reviews and finding a lot of gems. It's not like we have the exact same taste in music(yeah well nobody does eh), but you have a way of writing that seems wonderfully objective, even if that sounds completely mad.

I have been trying to review Alan Stivell's "Chemins De Terre" but, when I read the 2 superb existing reviews by Guldbamsen and Einsetumadur, I know I can't measure up. These are 2 guys who knew the music at the time, and have expressed what it "feels like" in a way that is difficult to convey if it's not in your DNA. Hats off to both of them.

I'd like a shout out to Jim and Andrea's two superb RPI reviews!
First of all, Jim's take on Le Orme's beautiful `Florian', an album I've slowly been coming to appreciate and cherish: http://www.progarchives.com/Review.asp?id=874106 Then Andrea's review of one of my modern RPI 5 star classics, an album I feel should be in every prog fan's collection - Gran Turismo Veloce - `Di Carne, Di Anima': http://www.progarchives.com/Review.asp?id=874095 Check out those albums everyone! |

Just like to point out a recent review by Kenethlevine for the self titled Fern Knight album! They are a very dear band to me, and I like to see someone else giving them some time too!

I also like the reviews of Finnforest, SouthSideOfTheSky, ConorFynes, Epignosis and ClemofNazareth. Others come to mind but I Don't see their usernames. I would also like my friend The_Jester to be a collaborator.
Jim, the main member of perhaps also love my reviews.

When I saw your review of Clockwork Angels, I said to myself << that album is going to be awesome >> I love your reviews Scott, and if you die now, I think this site is going to be boring. We have two things in common. Our user names comes from different bands. But we have some differences. I'm not a Star Wars Fan and I don't like Dream Theater. If you don't want to be on the Symphonic Team (I hope that's in a long time), I can replace you any time. Cheers Scott (if I move in Australia, I would like you to be my teacher) geneyesontle

Thanks man....I appreciate that....but its just an opinion more than a review....
When I'm writing about an obscure album only 5 people have heard, I'll go into great detail to inform them about the band and say what the music sounds like, I think that is where my strength lies.....on the famous albums like Rush where there's already 5000 reviews, I'll just basically give a quick opinion....for people who share my general taste. Those looking for a detailed assessment of the tracks on famous albums already have a bunch of better ones than I could write. ![]() |

Finn just posted a wonderful review of Caress of Steel. I agree with him on many points and share the amazement of the album and both epic's low rating.

I really like Gatot's latest review that appeared on the front page a day or two ago of Arena's `The Seventh Degree Of Seperation', a bit of an underrated album!
http://www.progarchives.com/Review.asp?id=852184 I like the album's combination of more accessible pieces with progressive elements throughout. Maybe one or two dross tracks, but mostly very decent! Glad to see someone really profess some love for it! Oh, and a shout out to Scott's current Asia `XXX' album - somebody has to warn the people! ![]() |
