Now I'll just have to convince the finance director that the purchase of progressive CD's is essential for the morale of the income generating poletariat...i.e ME.....
I'll just have to let her have that Betty Boop tattoo on her groin thats she's been mithering for.....But only if the artist is a female......

No problem, I'm always happy to throw business Greg's way. He was the man who sent me my first two Flower Kings CD's (quite expensive, since they were not on Inside Out back then), so he has my business for life. Good luck with the tattoo situation ![]() |

yeah, Greg is so awesome. sometimes i just go over there to browse. it's a true cyber record store. i would like to support my local music shops, but they are so stuck up and would literally laugh me out of the store if i ordered tfk from them. although, i did get the last steven wilson at one last year. the record stores here in atlanta are either ultra hip or alt. country/singer songwriter stuff.
peace

Thing is I can pay him with paypal - and I'm just about to embark on a large-scale "de-clutter sell everything that I don't want that somebody else might" campaign on ebay.....
Mind you Greg possibly won't be able to compete with UK based sellers based purely on P&P - so I'll possibly only use him when my UK sources draw a blank.
Can't wait for "Perpetuum Karma" to arrive Nexus are the most consistently good prog artist I have in my collection, and are definately No 1 keyboard-oriented symphonic prog band on the planet.... Edited by M27Barney - January 09 2013 at 06:24 |

I notice Greg Walker has a few real rarities on there. I won't mention 'em or someone might beat me to it ![]() ![]() I was thinking it would be interesting to list our favourite albums of the new millenium, you know to compare and contrast. I'll have to have a think and post mine in the next day or 2. However, do we include albums from the year 2000 or not? I'd say no, as the new millenium actually started on 01.01.01. However, that would mean Space Revolver could not be no.1 on my list!! ![]() |

Yeah Rob, seconded, let us know what you're selling :)
Roj, good idea on the new millennium, I'll give it some thought and see if I can come up with a top twenty over the next few days. |

When I said de-clutter I mainly meant - books, clothes and all the wifes stuff |

That is an album I'm not fond of Rob. I tried it a few times and it did nothing for me, possibly the least inspired album Roine features on. Perhaps it's me. From recollection though it's one I'd consider selling, perhaps I should give it one last try? I don't know if you have Keyholder yet, now that is a peach of an album. If you haven't got it yet, get it soon, you won't regret it!!! |

Roj, I'm in agreement with Barney on this one, it's a great album. I will agree that Keyholder is a better album, but really, they are not all that different. I'd say the edge that keyholder has is mostly due to Roine's greater input in the writing and arranging. Notes was completely a Hans Lundin creation, with Roine just acting as the guitarist mostly. In any case, I got it when it first came out, after hearing it played in full on one of the internet prog radio stations. I loved it. Keyholder eclipsed it later, but it's still easily my second favorite of the 2000's Kaipa albums. None of the Kaipa stuff is as good as any Flower Kings album though, I'll grant that. I have ordered Keyholder , Perilous, Viljans Oga, and the two remaining Nexus CD's I am missing. That will conclude the CD buying before my birthday I think.More than enough prog to shake a pointed stick at me-thinks....

The Kaipa stuff I enjoy, but it doesn't blow me away. I like the sounds, production and dynamics. At some point I'll collect some more.
I got Hasse's first album for xmas and it is awesome. very classic rock oriented with some awesome riffs. i didn't know he had it in him given the only solo tune i'd heard before this was Magic Pie :-) as far as 'best of the 21st century' goes...i'll just say all TFK and related :-) oh, and in my quest to enjoy more Pete T in the context of Marillion I've been listening to Fugazi. This might be the one that gets me hooked.

Roj,
I never got around to my top albums, maybe this weekend, worst case scenario is my plane ride to Florida on Tuesday.

I need to give this another listen. I bought a whole lot of Kaipa albums on the back of (the magnificent) Keyholder but couldn't get past the first spin on any of them. There are some artists (Neal Morse is another) where "more of the same" just gets weary after a while. |

That's a great shame Roj. Why not just take the Friday off, book a room and make a night of it? Who knows when this will happen again? |

do y'all think that prog fans listen more to stuff they feel like they should/would like. i'm just curious. Kaipa is a great example...they sound good, but don't blow me away. however, i've spent time listening to the because i feel like i have/want to get into them.
just a thought. c

Nope. I only listen to what excites me. Even if it's a band like TFK who, for the most part I enjoy, I can easily admit that I'm bored and unimpressed by some things they've done as well.
I'll give most anything a chance, but I'm not going to try and create a sense of appreciation for something that receives a great deal of acclaim if it doesn't move me. I'll get rid of albums from bands I like if they don't "fit my ears." Edited by *frinspar* - January 12 2013 at 17:57 |

frinspar! welcome to the TFK forum. you make some good points. i've been trying to get into marillion lately and every time i sit down to listen i say to myself, 'why am i not listening to TFK or something i really like?' you're right on.

Thanks.
I think I originally joined in 2005, then forgot my forum info and rejoined again in 2008. I mostly peek in. The depth of some of the conversations I've read, and the complexity of them regarding the many aspects of prog can sometimes be daunting. LOL I get what you're saying, though, about trying to find that thing about certain bands that so many others respond to. Me, if I don't get much out of something the first time, but still can't find anything worthwhile enough the second, I pull the chute. |
