This guy wasn't even a bad guy. He was a dude trying to sleep. |

There are no bad guys. That's the point.

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

True, but if he was shooting children in the face when they walked in then I might get their logic.

What do you think of my idea that you can't be a libertarian if you're a cop? (Exaggerated way of saying it but you get the point) |

If you're a libertarian, then you can't be a what your supervisors would call a good cop, but I think you can certainly be a cop.
By a similar argument you could say that a libertarian could not serve on a jury. Sure he can, but he would be practicing jury nullification most of the time. |

Having been registered as a libertarian I don't think I'll ever need to worry about being called in to jury duty.

I don't mean "can" in terms of "be allowed to" but that there is an inherent condradiction.
BTW, the last time I was called for jury duty there was a question about mandatory minimum sentences and we were asked if we could still render a verdict knowing that, and I said no. I wasn't picked. Edited by Negoba - January 11 2013 at 14:39 |

Why didn't you lie? It seems like a disservice. There would be a score of things that I could not do, such as convict someone for half the crime statutes on the books, but I would never say that. I would just vote non-guilty. There's only a contradiction if you assume that a cop needs to act in a certain way. |

It depends. Does it go against you conscience to enforce laws that you personally disagree with? |

One of the other groups born from his legacy were the Blue Republicans, liberals and progressives that realize limited government is the best, perhaps only, way to reach our liberal ideals.
![]() Indeed, its amazing the swell that happened in the 4 year period of 08-12. There is a good point made, the limited government folk is notoriously rigid, while it can be good...hope they can accept certain compromises. I dont mean big ideal changers, even tiny sways off the path usually caused outcry. Long as the ideals live on though, that can be worked for. Hope Gary Johnson sticks around and runs again. I'd say he now has the best record out there. |

I spent thirty minutes on the phone on hold with the IRS. When a live person answers the phone, she gets halfway through her introduction and then somehow hangs up on me.

On the callback, I spent 50 minutes waiting.
However, my representative was a delightful fellow who sounded just like Phillip Seymour Hoffman. |

I've spent a lot of time on the phone to the IRS, mostly for my job but also for personal tax issues. They are always immensely slow, but when I finally do get ahold of a live human being, they've never been anything but friendly and helpful to me.
