PS. My CD ( a Korean Mini Lp sleeve limited to 300 copies) has a better sound that the Japanese SHMCD.

I initially was put off by the sound of the Japanese SHM mini lp as well. For me, I was appalled at the vinyl surface noise. In fact, I almost returned it!

That Japanese SHM mini lp is a new vinyl rip, which contains an extra minute of music on the song "Amico Suicida," which was inexplicably deleted when Vinyl Magic released the CD in 1989. That same Vinyl Magic release has been the source of the subsequent editions, including the BTF mini, the Korean mini, and the box set Un Biglietto per l'Inferno, although each of these has been mastered slightly differently.

As I have come to appreciate more the original vinyl sound, I have also come to love the sound of the Japanese SHM mini, free of compression and mastering. True, it sounds flatter than the others, but to my ears anyway, I prefer that sound. But that's just me, and frankly some remasterings just sound better than the original. Like the remastered Tales from Topographic Oceans--not to mention the addition of the introductory two minutes on The Revealing Science of God.

Two truly amazing albums!

By the way, the other Biglietto material to my ears falls short of the amazing debut. The comeback album is good, but not nearly as good as the original material. And likewise for the aborted second album which saw a posthumous release.

Yep, I always assumed Biglietto were essentially a `single album' band, and that that `second' album was leftovers or unfinished material - not the first RPI band to have these sort of releases show up much further down the track. I'm very curious about the comeback album, embarassed to say I didn't even notice it.

Biglietto Per L'Inferno - Il Tempo Della Semina

Unfinished one, but if you like it get the BTF edition. The original Mellow has a terrible sound.

Does that Bigleitto second one sound `complete' enough to hold up as a proper album?

What I REALLY would have loved is a second album from Corte Dei Miracoli, one of my all-time favourite RPI titles!

No, Michael, I can't call "Il Tempo Della Semina" a proper album. The first and the last song are long and good, but unfinished.  The others have all their moment. that's all I can say.
Do you know the live of Corte Dei Miracoli (a 1974 concert) ?

Pierre!!! No, you've just made my day! I noticed Jim gave it a decent review, so I might have to get it!

Heh, listening to the studio album right now!

That Corte Dei Miracoli album is good but it never blew me away actually Cry, and when I heard that live album I couln't get to the end of it, the sound was just horrible.

I like the first Corte, but like Sagichim the sound bothers me a bit. The style is quite different as well. I much prefer the proper album--like Michael, for me it's a gem. But if I recall correctly, I think Jim prefers the live album to the studio album.

I think it was the first of the more obscure RPI albums that actually captivated me! When I heard it, it blew me away!! I was like `What the heck am I listening to?!' lol!

The opening keyboard/drum loop in the first few seconds (well, that's what it sounds like to me!), and the wild piano/drums throughout the entire album, as well as a pretty damn interesting vocalist sealed the deal for me. Also no guitars makes it very unique, and also means the band had to work their butts off to make sure the rest of the music was varied and interesting.

^ I haven't listened to it in a long time but I remember always liking the drums sound and especially the snare, aggressive and recorded in a slight distortion. I love when that happens.

Just found this one on an old whishlist. I had completely forgotten it. Sometimes cheesy, sometimes great.

Sensitiva Immagine was an Italian group that released one album in the late seventies. The group consisted of Alfredo Olivieri (vocals), Massimo Buriani (guitars), Stefano Bertonazzi (keyboards), Andrea Pavinato (bass) and Franco Buriani (drums). The music is somewhat reminiscent of the other Italian symphonic groups like Locanda Delle Fate and later group Nuova Era but with some foreign influence as well.

No, Jim, it's alright about the CdMlive album! Relevant and interesting insight and info more like it! Hmmm, I see Greg Walker has it listed on his site....

You know, I've been umming and ahhhing about that `LASER Vita Sul Pianeta' album for some time now....very curious, and barely heard any of it. Your review is my only hint that it might be something I'd really enjoy!

Hmmm, I've been batting on about that Janus 'Minstral' album a bit too!

Here's a track off an album you may want to consider later on, it's a much darker and rougher sounding RPI title, but one of my favourites:

Biglietto Per L'inferno - S/T

Here's the final track:
Oh yeah, thats a killer of a song...sorry pun intended Smile...some derivatives of words are obvious as in that title.  That was awesome!  Heavy but kept its cool with the flute interludes and seemed to be well balanced going in quite a few directions while maintaining a dark feel throughout.

I have seen that in the top 100 and was curious about it.  It has to be added to the list which is getting quite large and chaotic, I am going to have to make an organized spreadsheet wish list to keep up.  Thanks!

Oh yeah, I really enjoyed Pierre's post of PIERRO CAMPI, it made me feel like I was in Italy sitting at an outdoor cafe sipping some fine coffee..Big smile.

^^^^ Wow, the den has been hopping the past 24 hours or so!  It took a contemplative, reflective turn about prog music somewhere in there which was thought provoking.  How certain music was a defining moment, like TFTO by Yes and Genisis's Lamb.

I feel glad and sad about the music, since I was like a 17 year locust and really strayed away from the music scene entirely (except for a period of Classical) up until the early/mid-2000s, which was the sad part.  Thats when I hungered for the music of my youth again (prog) and listened to my old favorites, got stuff from that era that I always wanted but never heard and eventually led to PA discovering old and newer stuff and I soaked it up like a sponge and then RPI a few months ago, that was a defining moment and the glad part.  Discovering something that is old but new to me has been mind blowing!  Approve   Sorry for the soap box moment....Embarrassed

Jim, thinking back I drifted away for years also....got into prog early on....along with hard rock and metal a little bit.  Then got way into indie and alt rock mostly until the mid 2000s when the prog bug bit again.  I had found a copy of a Finnforest album and that set the wheels in motion again....Heart

I was walking in a desert of silence when I heard the voice of Alan Sorrenti. A long time, almost two years, I thought I was dreaming. There are no birds in the desert. But that voice was real and soon the sky filled of wings beats.
