You're welcome, Jim. I haven't bought it yet, but the CD is easy to find and cheap.

Not at all, Michael. It's one of my favourites. So much ideas and fabulous electronic sounds. Love it from the first to the last note.

Pierre, I certainly don't have the Mini LP version, but I don't think I've got the Japanese SHMCD one either, so it must be another pressing altogether?
Glad to hear you like the album so much, I've copied my CD of it so I've always got a copy in the car, along with many other RPI essentials I may need on hand should I need an `emergency fix' of any of them on long drives! ![]() |

Thoughts without importance of the end of the year.
At the moment, I listen very much to YES, and especially TALES FROM TOPOGRAPHIC OCEANS. It really is the epitome of progressive music. After this disc and the sacrifice of the Genesis' Lamb on the altar of Broadway, everything has changed. This music has tried to survive, but the weight of the past was too heavy and still is today. I hope that one day an artist or a group will come up with a musical concept so powerful that one will have to invent a new name for his type of music. I think that the progressive song is a song that takes the time to breathe.(Regardless of its duration.) I expect this new breath.

^ Oh Yeah...guys that Biglietto is one of the best out there. Like you Michael I love every bit of that dirty sounding, I'm glad that I had a chance of writing an enthusiastic review for it.
Anyone of you good people is familiar with their other releases? Looking at their page now, I just saw a 2009 release with a good rating! (I'm ashamed to say I didn't know about it ![]() EDIT: Pierre your CD has a better sound you say? Now I'm curious. Edited by sagichim - December 29 2012 at 09:37 |

I hear ya my avian friend......I always play Tales around this time of year, it's a winter album for me. It also is likely my favorite album, I'm not sure I'll ever hear another album that tops it. If I was forced to make a top 5 list of my favorite albums it would be there, though I've no intention of torturing myself with lists anymore. ![]() |

Pierre, you feel that `Topographic' and `Broadway' have cast a heavy shadow over prog rock in general that you feel it hasn't been able to rise above since? I know what you mean, they are immense albums, made with such ambition and scale.
But you don't feel there have been any albums/bands that have made grand footprints in the genre since that time? SAGI - I'll be honest, I bought Biglietto was another of those `one and done' Italian bands....Now I'll need to look further myself!! ![]() Edited by Aussie-Byrd-Brother - December 29 2012 at 09:55 |

Thoughts without importance of the end of the year. II
A few weeks ago, I didn't know the signification of the word R.I.O. Of course I knew Rio Lobo and Rio Bravo ... and of course Rio Grande. But if we can compare Art Bears to a river, can we compare Tales from topographic oceans to a sea ? YES ? NO ?

"But you don't feel there have been any albums/bands that have made grand footprints in the genre since that time?" No, Michael. Apart from my beloved italians, my last musical shock was the Bjork' s Medulla album of 2001.Gosh, eleven years !

Man, now you've got ME thinking what I would have considered to be the last great `musical shocks' that I felt, Pierre, and whether or not they were important `progressions' in the big scheme of things.
I remember years ago when Porcupine Tree's `Signify', and Paatos' `Timeloss' showed up, I had NEVER heard modern progressive music so vibrant, inventive, cutting edge, total blending of genres and a perfect balance between vintage excess and modern refinement. In the end, those albums may not have changed the prog world exactly, but to ME they totally affected my own personal prog experience in every way! ![]() |

I agree. The prog world doesn't mean anything. But your personal prog world means everything.

I only know Bjork from radio stuff and not from a progressive point of view. Jim, Pierre can you post a good Bjork song?
I'm always interested. |

You're not the only guy, Jim, you're the one !
Sag, the first song of Medulla sounds to me as beautiful as the opening of an opera. (no isntruments here, just voices) |
