I prefer Kublai, Michael. But this one is not bad.

I should have asked before, can anyone recommend this double CD:

I saw it today for $10, thought it was a compilation, so I left it behind. Turns out it's two complete concerts, one from 1974, the other from 2000.

Should I go back tomorrow and hopefully still get it?

Pierre, I got to listen to about the first half of `Kinesis' tonight on the drive into nightshift, I definately don't enjoy it as much as `Kublai', even though it still sounds good.

`Kinses' is a lot noisier, heavier and busier....Not nearly as Canterbury Scene based as the second album, although I did pick up very slight RPI here and there in a few brief spots, that were all but gone by that second album.

Anyway, I'll stick with it, while trying to give your suggestions a listen too!

No, Kati, this isn't prog, but like italian psych and prog, this period (end of sixities- middle seventies) was the pic of italian soundtracks music. I love them both. Heart

Another funny Morricone :

Jim, drink too much J&B can turn you into Juliette Binoche Wink

AEP(Jim)!!!

I have been playing that album over and over the last few days.....Put it this way, I've kind of been a little dismissive of it, because I love their first album so much....but I tell you, I HAVE SEEN THE LIGHT, MY BROTHER lol!!

What a darkly dramatic, intense and gorgeous album...truly stunning.

Oh man, that first track, with the orchestral chorus arrangement....

and then the rest is just as good.

Jim, that album was in the first order of RPI albums I bought, and it was the one more than any other that hooked me on this genre.

The piano and violin in the classical/romantic, melodic style, has always captivated me.  And every time new people bring up QVL, I feel compelled to post the video of the worlds biggest QVL fan.  I love this guy.  Apologies to those who've seen this like 5 times nowLOL but you'll have to grin and bear it.

I may have to book this guy for the Villa new years eve partyWink

It was one of my first RPI purchases too and I loved it from the first spin, but like Aussie Byrd I like their first album just a little better (or you don't anymore LOL).

Oh l like the first album too, but yeah, the second is more to my taste.  They are definitely different animals.

Oh no, Sagi, that first album still means the world to me! I love that it has a slightly noisier and messier sound in parts, slightly murkier production sound too...it's all good, baby lol!

Guess it's now easier to say `They were a great band that made two totally s**t-hot albums'....or something like that!

Both are excellent. It's also the case for the two DALTON and PROCESSION albums. The same for PIERROT LUNAIRE or IL VOLO. What a country !
