Hi all,
I'm looking for a good set of headphones to use on my mp3 portable player.
I'm not looking for heavy bass. Clean, clear sound so I can hear those keyboard and guitar solos and such.
![]() Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Earbuds or full size? Are you going to be using them somewhere loud or quiet? What's your price range?

That site will give you a great perspective for what you are looking for. As for MP3 player headphone compatibility I recommend BOWER&WILKINS. Expensive but worth it. And a headphone set you should watch out for is the V-MOTA LP2 CROSSFADES. They re-defined their mid-range sound and lowered the bass, so you might appreciate those. They also have pretty big drivers sitting at 50mm, which is one of the biggest in its class. One other thing is that their impedance level is low. Only 32 OHMS Enjoy headphone shopping. Always a great time. :) |

Sennhieser Headphones rule:
http://www.sennheiserusa.com/home Personally I own the HD 650s by Sennheiser. Best sounding headphones I've ever used. ![]() They are quite expensive, but most of Sennheiser's cheaper headphones are very comparable, and sound better than most other brands on the market. Sony MDR-7506.
Industry standard, and probably the best you'll get for under $200.

Heavy bass from earbuds?
![]() Seriously, the best set I've found are made by Sony. They were a Consumer's Report recommendation. I don't think they even make them anymore... Edited by Slartibartfast - December 21 2012 at 16:09 |

I exchanged those for a set of AKG K272HD which are closed back and I am more pleased now.
Neither of these are boomy bass....Natural sounding, nothing artificial.

Yes. They do. I own a pair I Sennheiser HD 800's. Cost me 1694$ but worth every penny. I worship the sound quality from those gargantuan beasts. Best investment I've made in a long time. |

One of my Christmas presents this year was a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-ANC7B noise cancelling headphones - they are an older model that used to be over $200 and are now under $200, so they're pretty nice.

Although much maligned as over-priced fashion accessories, I listen to my iPod Classic through a pair of Dr Dre Solo HD beats. They took a little burning in but sound absolutely fantastic. Very warm and rich sounding with great (but not overwhelming) bass presence. At first the mids and highs lacked clarity but after about 20 hours burn in, they really opened up. I prefer them to Sennheiser, Bose and Sony. I have spent a fortune on headphones over the years, but for me, the Solo HD beats are the best I have ever owned. I have been using them daily since mid -September and cannot fault them.

Sennheiser or Audio Technica. I used them for classical music but it rocks for rock too (specially Sennheiser).
