Not an animal either.
Another obscure, largely forgotten progressive band

This is becoming quite a headache file ... But I'd love to proceed in facing this challenge. Does the person I'm after originate from a Greek source?

How many pieces does one need to see the result of a puzzle? It was really difficult to combine all these hints to one person, especially a person whose name is known by almost everyone. But I have found an explanation for all those hints now, if the person I was looking for is named Merlin: navel oranges, a German 80's prog band, a protein and an asteroid with the same name, etc., so I'm quite sure of his identity at last.

Bravo! You got it at last. I guess at a point my hints confused you more than they helped you …

Thursday I went to the market, and to my delight I saw that the Merlin
oranges were back. What I’ve read about navel oranges doesn’t fit at
all: These are very juicy and sweet, and scrutinizing them, I can’t find
any "navel". Anyway, at the same time I was wondering what person to pick next for this game, and the answer sort of gave it itself.
You found all the hints, didn’t you? Only one of the hints you didn’t
mention requires more than the Wiki-article: Elaine is one of the many
names given to the Lady of the Lake. And Merlin’s father was a demon, an
incubus: neither man, god or animal.

Maybe I mixed up two different things about Merlin and navel oranges; I read this on a Greek site. I could not find Elaine in the Wiki article indeed, but outside I found some other connections between Merlin and Elaine.which I did not study carefully. All the other hints were clear for me indeed. Tomorrow I'll be back with a new one.

No, not before 1000. Probably not an evolutionist.
