I recommend.... CONTINUUM !!!

Continuum is a "Dark Prog" band wich proposing a dense and singular music : it plunges the listener with fluidity into the rhythmical waves of the progressive metal, where fascinating melodies with non Euclidian accents get towards the somber depths of a Lovecraftian universe... Or attract towards the majesty of the celestial spheres inspired by Arthur C.Clarke.
After the release of the first album back in 2009, available from now on-line, Continuum gets ready for the release of its second collection, From the Depths, Which will delight the amateurs of Symphony X, King Crimson, Andromeda, Genesis, but also composers such as Gustav Holst or Jeremy soule.

A trailer available here :

I recommend TIEMKO (see my reviews)

JEAN-JACQUES TOUSSAINT ( who was playing keyboard + other instruments + singing in TIEMKO ) has much to show about TIEMKO and its projects on his website.

I recommend SAVIOUR MACHINE.

This band has impressed me so much for so long. They are one of the very few bands where I can say that they do not have one weak spot in their entire discography. It's all fancinating, quality work. You can also learn about the book of Revelations in their LEGEND TRILOGY. Brilliant stuff and you don't have to be religious to enjoy it.

SM produce a DARK GOTHIC PROG METAL sound that quite frankly is the best in the business. Go now and by their albums!! Treat your ears to something magnificent this week. ;)

I recommend Aloeswood.

For fans of Agalloch, Opeth etc. Aloeswood has a post black metal sound, also quite atmospheric.
The EP "Forsaken Landscapes" is available for free download, I definitely recommend that you get it, it's really good.

Another band I can recommend is IQ. IQ are one of the very best Neo prog bands in the world. They have some early GENESIS influences in their overall sound and I highly recommend them to anyone who wants to explore symphonic prog on a more deeper intellectual level. The albums to start with that would give you a great idea of what IQ is fully capable of would be THE WAKE, EVER, THE 7th HOUSE, DARK MATTER and SUBTERANEA.

ENJOY PROGGERS!!

I just wanted to say hello and most importantly thank you for all those who contributed.  I'm new here but not to prog.  I didn't see Stolen Babies (There Be Squabbles Ahead) so I thought I'd share.  I've seen them twice.  Adorable female voclist who also plays accordian.  A bit metal in a circus, dark cabaret way that reminds me a bit of mr bungle.  Produced by Dan Rathburn of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum.

cheers

Hey guys check out Artilects debut album  recorded and mixed by the mastermind Jerry Guidroz at Radiant Records (Transatlantic, Neal Morse, Mike Portnoy)! The mastering was done by none other than progressive metal guru Jamie King (Between the Buried and Me).

You can hear a full track off the album at:

Or check out samples of the album on Itunes. If your interested in purchasing the album please head over to Itunes or cdbaby.com

Today's recommendation is SUPERTRAMP.

SUPERTRAMP are a wonderful crossover prog group that incorporate various wind instruments in their overall sound including the great saxophone, which isn't a common instrument in prog.

3 albums I recommend to get a nice definitive look at the incredible light heartily talented SUPERTRAMP, really is.

1) EVEN IN THE QUIESTEST MOMENTS( a wonderful album where the grand piano is featured so strongly.)
2) CRIME OF THE CENTURY ( probably their best album with a bit more of a serious feel at times)
3) BROTHER WHERE YOU BOUND? ( my favourite album and their most proggy album to date.)

So enjoy this terrific, classic band. And make sure to crank the music through a nice pair of headphones, so you can appreciate hearing every little nook and crany of instrumentation performed. Grab the remastered copies if you don't have one. I upgraded. They were dirt cheap. :)
