This guy is equally good in guitaring as he is in keyboard I feel!

That's actually not Neal Morse on guitar.  It's Paul Gilbert, a world-renowned shred guitarist who has guested on a couple of Neal's albums.  From the little bit of Morse's music I've listened to, though, he seems to be a highly competent guitarist, regardless.

I'm pretty sure Paul Gilbert only played the last guitar solo in The Door and the opening guitar solo in The Conflict. All the riffs and other guitar stuff is Neal himself. He's no slouch on guitar, though I prefer other guitarists when it comes to solos and leads, but as a rhythm player, Neal is really good.

Awesome set by the way. all killer songs of Neal's, and one OK song in Weathering Sky. Interesting encore.

i have a feeling he played a medley of the ? tunes.  i like weathering sky.  wish he would play more dates.  at least hit the major cities.  i think if he'd do this every year he'd be more well known and gather a bigger following.  TFK need to do this too.  or maybe do a Kickstart for a tour.

Agreed completely. Though I can always catch NYC shows from Neal or The Flower Kings (if they ever come here), it would be nice to see more than a few dates in North America.

yeah, i really don't get why these guys just don't hit the road.  they don't have to do long tours like DT or Rush, but if they'd do 10-20 dates every season they'd start making money.  i definitely think roine and the flower kings should do this.  i mean they are light years ahead of most arena bands and all bar bands who some how make a living touring.  i guess it's just a prog thing.  i understand family issues ect, but 50 shows a year isn't bad.  hell, morse could hub out of his home to do a tour of the south.  the bible belt would eat him up.  he also doesn't need two other keyboard players in the band.  that would cut costs :-)

I should start listening to his solo work, i love the albums i've heard by Spock's Beard and Transatlantic, so which is his best one to start with?

“?” or “Sola Scriptura” are the two best ones to start with. “One” is also good, but I don’t like the overall flow of the album, personally. Either way, you already know much of Neal’s other work, so any of those albums will be fine.

I would recommend you my top 3 Neal's albums: "?", One and Momentum, his last release.

What did you think of Steve Hackett's guitar playing on ?. I thought it was one of his best efforts.

Testimony and ? are my two favorite of his solo stuff.

Whirlwind is my favorite Transatlantic.

I got Momentum a few weeks ago, and I like it.  Not as good as Testimony 2, but still the usual from Morse, which is good.  I need to listen to it some more to absorb it, but it's probably slotting in around number 4 or 5 in my favorites of his solo career (the only album I don't care for much is Lifeline, and even that has a couple good tunes on it).

Mike gets to play Author of Confusion! He killed it in that song. Love that Neal picked the Conflict too

Sorry...been away for awhile, that was one of the best parts of the show, Author of Confusion, and yes Mike Portnoy absolutely NAILED it, it was great just watching him play that song!

AlexDom! That's my mate Tom Ozric for you! He's a recent `convert' to Morse, via the Transatlantic albums, and he can't get over the sheer talent of the guy!

Man, he's got ENDLESS quality material to get acquainted with!

I've convinced him (well, I didn't exactly need to twist his arm!) to snap up that first Whirld-wind Tour DVD to see the guy in action, especially for the frequent little Morse/Portnoy dares/duels!

Morse's facial expression while he plays are worth it alone too!

AlexDom, I just got my copy of the `Momentum' CD a day ago, so I'm just starting to give it a spin now. So once my excitement kicks in, sorry for you and all the others who've probably had time to really get used to it having to put up with very late praise of it!
