^ I like his retro albums where he does use a lot of vintage instruments but I know what you mean. Hard to get the same sound he had up to and inc Criminal Record. But I believe it is possible to do a smart recording that is enjoyable to listen to. Also I was never that happy with the original recording so I'm definitely looking forward to something that at least has more dynamics and brings out the unique grandeur of a full symphony orchestra.

I also liked his Retro albums. However, I must admit that at least for me, it sounded very fresh and "new", it didn't quiet have the 70's feel, but I don't mean that in a bad way. As a matter of fact, I would wonder what need is there for new instruments, if he can do all those beautiful sounds with the old ones.

I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?

^ It probably will have Ashley Holt on vocals as the album features the current line-up of the English Rock Ensemble.

My copy was waiting on the doormat when I arrived home from work this evening. On first listen my verdict is that it is very good and the new material fits well within the original score with neither distraction or discontinuity. Along with Ashley Holt, (who does a sterling job on The Battle in reparation for the less than convincing performance he gave on the live album 38 years earlier) the other lead vocalist is Hayley Sanderson who sings the new songs ('Echoes' caught my attention immediately) as well as taking over Gary Pickford-Hopkins songs rather admirably (they sound better pitched for a female voice singing well within her range than an over-reaching male one). Peter Egan does an adequate job as the narrator, though unless you visualise in your mind him reading it, it is very easy to just think it's Patrick Stewart reprising his role on Return.
Wakeman is of course, excellent.
A nice touch in the album credits & thanks is Rick Wakeman has dedicated the album to Jon Lord.

Thinking about it Peter Egan does sound a lot like Patrick Stewart!
I've been notified by Amazon that mines on the way. Looking forward to it. I wonder if it will be better than Emerson's excellent Three Fates Project which I received yesterday. Funny that even after all these years they are still in competition.
