Sagichim, Pierre, Jim...

I remember when Greg Walker/Syn-phonic got the vinyl reissue in stock about a year ago, I gave the album several listens on Youtube, and it didn't grab me all that much. However, I really don't think Youtube is ideal for a close listen, you miss a lot of details and subtlety. It also struck me as being an album you would have to play over and over and really focus on it to get the most out of it.

My friend in Queensland on the Archives Tom Ozric bought one, and has told me on a few occasions I've really missed out on that one. I think I owe it you guys (and Tom!) to give it more a proper listen

Hey, I should ask you regular Italian Thread guys, have you perhaps heard of this band/album:

MOOGG - `Le Ore I Giorni Gli Anni’

A real favourite of mine for quite a while now, Moogg are essentially an Italian Canterbury styled band, I originally proposed them to be added as a Canterbury Scene band three months ago, but nothing since. I wonder if I would have been better off submitting to the Italian RPI guys?? Thing is, they don't really SOUND like an RPI band, or do they? See what you all think!

You guys might really enjoy this one - My favourite track on the album, has a few little darker edges throughout – love the bit that starts at 2:15!!:
Classe 21

or the opening piece/title track
Le Ore I Giorini Gli Anni

My original submission for the inclusion of the band is here, there are some more Youtube albums tracks there:

Moogg

In the end, I hope you might at least just enjoy their music!

Did not know that band at all Clap. Le ore I giorini gli anni (with its soul feeling) is really good.

So glad you like it Pierre! It's mostly very joyful and upbeat prog!

Hey, I might have just finished listening to one of your favourites a few minutes ago here at work....

Delirium - III

WHAT AN ALBUM....I love how dark and dirty the sax playing is on it!

Wow, I suddenly feel very uncomfortable!

Actually, the whole album has a lot of dark sounds, plus the singing is really pained and gritty! `III' is an amazing work, and I really like their more recent one `Il Nome Del Vento' too - which was actually my first Delirium album!

^^^

III is the best offering from Delirium. I love the addition of (dirty) sax and mellotron.

The dark sounds are rather black music sounds. It makes me think of that terrible song of the Persuaders :
"Love gonna pack up"

I thought Il Nome Del Vento was mediocare, not even close to III, nothing memorable.

A few months that I turn around this difficult album. Finally the great review of our dear Analog Hurricane (Mellotron Storm) conviced me to buy it.

Moogg - thanks Michael! I've bumped your original thread to the Canterbury Team.

That's a very good album, if you're a Canterbury fan

I also prefer III, but I still enjoyed Il Nome del Vento. To me it seemed like the band had matured, mellowed, become more contemplative with age. In a beautiful way.

Todd, I have no opinion yet on the Carnasciala's album. I just come order the Italia Progressive vol 2. The boxes are cheaper today, around 25 bucks for 6 CD. You'll  tell me: quantity is not quality. And it's true : I only want three of them. Big smile

Oh, say it aint so, Sagi! Sorry you didn't enjoy it! Perhaps because I came to that band first by `Vento' I had nothing else to compare it to. At the time I bought it simply because I knew it was somehow Italian prog related, and, honestly, I really liked the cover painting - looked wonderful on vinyl! I find that album is sophisticated and dramatic, with darker little edges once in a while, and full of neat instrumental flourishes.

Then when I heard `III' it was like a punch on the face. So dark, intense and dirty. I think the singer has one of the most gravelly and distinct voices in all my prog collection!

I played `III' at work last night, after not having listened to it in about two years, and I was going crazy at how good I'd forgotten it was. My poor work colleague next to me had no idea why I was so excited!

Michael, have you listened yet to Jumbo? If not, try their DNA album. (Most people like their third album better, but I think DNA is their best. I think Jim feels the same way.)

Also, give Rustichelli e Bordini a try. Totally different style from Jumbo or Delirium, but still great.

That is, if you like that dark, intense and dirty vocal style!

I did the same thing, Pierre! I think that set was the first one I bought, too, looking for that album.

Thanks, Todd, I DO have a CD of `Jumbo - DNA' but I think so far I've found the vocals TOO heavy-going! But I'm going to go and dig it out and I'm committed to listening to it properly. I'll report back after a few days of playing! I haven't heard any of their albums other than that one, so not sure where to go with them after `DNA'?

Rustichelli e Bordini was AMAZING!! Someone on this thread about two months ago suggested that album, and I've so far only heard a few tracks on Youtube but it sounded truly superb!!! I'm actually going to properly purchase the CD with my next Synphonic order - you guys totally sold me on that one!!
