^Is that the brown haired girl from ABBA you've got in your sig Steve, or do you still have a fetish for that Earth and Fire front woman?

Pheeew! Man you nearly had me fooled thereLOL I proud myself of many things - especially being able to enjoy most forms of music, but ABBA is my cryptonite! I guess it comes from listening to Fernando for three hours on repeat before going out on the town. Funny yes - but excruciatingly painfulLOL

My fave today has to do with me being over excited - strike that - maniacally aroused by the news of a brand new Tame Impala record!!!!! Just ordered the bugger, but for now - I'll have to spin their first one, which should be right up the Beatles afficionado's alley. Frontman sounds like the perfect combination of Lennon and McCartney:

^^ That's a good tune, David!  Ever hear the Olivia Tremor Control?  Reminded me a little of that.  They were from my neck of the woods (Athens GA).

re: ABBA, I decided about a year ago that since I really liked Earth and Fire's Europop-oriented late 70s music, I'd probably enjoy ABBA too.  I knew a handful of hits already, and even liked a few of them (S.O.S. especially).  So I saw a real good deal on a download which included ALL OF THEIR STUDIO ALBUMS in one package, and on a whim I bought it.   And it's really not bad, especially if I put on my Ironic Hipster Hat and pat myself on the back for how Retro Chic I am.  But I can understand the "cryptonite" effect it has on you and others. LOL

Well, I can understand the high praising and all. They did have a remarkable ear for easy recognizable hooks and melodies, but then again some of the most anodyne foul tasteless sound buggery out there manages something similar. The two guys though were classical musicians though, so it's no big surprise they 'understood' music so well.
I'm glad you are able to find some redeeming qualities about them, after all no music should suffer the eternal torment of noone ever listening to it, I would just appreciate if you'd keep that stuff away from meLOL I would however enjoy partying with you in your hipster hat(Where's that mute button?). Sounds like fun!

Haven't heard of Olivia Tremor Control - now you've got me curious...

Well, here's a good starter track.  I think this was from the early 90s.  They only had two full length albums (both double album length, and elaborate), and this is from the first of those two, "Music from the Unrealized Script: Dusk at Cubist Castle".

My pick for the day is from an obscure indie band from the 90s, The Space Needle.  Simple, stark, sad, and pretty.  They could really jack up the amps when they wanted to also, but this song shows them in ballad mode.  An ode to the bittersweet peacefulness of solitude.

Maybe not strictly a "song", but today was all about F*ck Buttons' terrific album Tarot Sports - and this opener is just awesome in every way possibleHeart Takes some getting use to, I would imagine - especially for folks who can't handle a dance beat....
