I always felt that Christina Scabbia of LACUNA COIL is a great female vocalist, but Lacuna Coil is not a prog band by any means, except for one song they did on their first orginal demo ep. UN FANTASIMMA TRE MOI. brilliant.
Have you checked out the band Evenoire?
If not, they are from Italy too, and their female singer has a pretty cool voice. She also plays the flute. I've heard them labeled "gothic folk metal", but they have quite a progressive edge in their stuff as well with some offbeat time signatures and room for good instrumentation. They're pretty new, and I dig them alot, more than most of the gothic metal scene these days. "Misleading Paradise" and "Minstrel Of Dolomites" are especially good, but their whole Vitriol album is essential if you want some fresh Italian accented goth metal in your collection.

Well aren't you kind. Thanks so much for this recommendation. From the 2 tracks you sent me I can already tell that they are more musically diverse than LACUNA COIL. I've really been into the Dark Gothic Progressive metal scene lately because of my long time favourites SAVIOUR MACHINE, KAMELOT, NIN and THE CURE. anyway, thank you and I will explore this band, EVENOIRE further

le Dimanche: Colour Of Shade (Netherlands-2009). Very good post-rock music, with the bassist of The Gathering. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=TFfDK0t7URM

Just heard Landmarq for the first time. "Enterntaining angels" is nice.
Their previous (1998) studio album 'Science of Coincidence' is good too - also featuring Tracy Hitchings on vocals. Before that they had male vocalists (notably the excellent Damian Wilson).
If you want a real treat, get the 2006 DVD 'Turbulence - Live in Poland' with Tracy at the helm:
The version of their epic song 'Lighthouse' on there is brilliant.

Touchstone were mentioned in the list of female-fronted prog bands posted quite early in this thread, but no mention since. They played at the Robin 2 in Bilston UK - just up the road from me - about a month or so ago, and someone has posted a couple of vids from the gig on YouTube. Here's one of them:

In regards to the wonderful District 97 and Leslie Hunt, I hope everyone has checked out the live DVD that comes with the first run of `The Trouble With Machines' album!
Man, she is tiny! But such a powerful voice for such a small frame, a cheeky sense of humour and a VERY tough personality! Her dodgy dancing to the tricky prog time signatures is worth watching the concert for alone!
I know what you mean - her dancing is captivating....
