Ooh, Phideaux fan, I like Karnataka very much!
I've got the first album `The Storm' (Man, I THINK that's what it was called, I haven't listened to it in years!), and I really liked it, even though it was occasionally a little mannered and bland. `The Gathering Light', which you've posted a sample of here, was really rather good, I couldn't believe that the new female singer they had for that album was pretty much gone just as the album was released! Anyway, the latest female singer (forget her name) is rather wonderful, and their new live DVD looks terrific, I'll definately be snapping up a copy! Have you seen the trailer for it on another thread? ![]() Karnataka DVD trailer |

The current Karnataka singer is the lovely Hayley Griffiths, a British Classical Crossover singer from Surrey, who has performed worldwide as the lead singer in the international phenomenon ‘Riverdance’, and as Erin the Goddess in Michael Flatley’s ‘Lord of the Dance’. Hayley has toured nearly every state in the US, as well as extensive tours of Europe, China, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Mexico and Chile. She has two albums out as a solo artist - 'Silver Screen' (2010) and 'Celtic Rose' (2011). Not prog in the slightest, but very pleasant listening, and they demonstrate what a wonderful voice the lass has: http://www.reverbnation.com/hayleygriffiths or http://www.hayleygriffiths.com/ for more info. You'll find plenty of tracks by her on YouTube - here's just one:
And here's a full track off Karnataka's 'New Light' DVD..which IS absolutely first class, and well worth getting hold of: ![]() |

Thank you, Yam Yam, for confirming the singer's name for me - Hayley Griffiths! I certainly didn't mean it to sound so unimportant and dismissive, I was simply too lazy to go and look it up!
![]() She's a wonderful fit for the band, brings a lot of energy to the fellas and she has a bit of a goddess quality! Wonderful! |

She is extensively featured in the Brian Dade Aiiradio show which I posted in the other thread you linked to (in your last-but-one post). This show has a few technical gremlins with the chatroom, but the music played on it from the 'New Light' live album is superb, and Hayley comes across as someone having a personality to match her good looks. The show will be taken down early next week, so if you've got about three hours to spare: http://www.livestream.com/aiiradionet/video?clipId=pla_05805399-a594-43f7-8325-19c61eac9f87

I like Karnataka. I've got The Gathering Light and I also had another CD and DVD with Rachel Jones. But you know, I think that in 2013 the only album of celtic progressive rock I will buy is the third one of Seven Reizh.

I always felt that Christina Scabbia of LACUNA COIL is a great female vocalist, but Lacuna Coil is not a prog band by any means, except for one song they did on their first orginal demo ep.
UN FANTASIMMA TRE MOI. brilliant. |

^ It's certainly a good 'un...but Cristina doesn't sing on it - it's just an instrumental.

I saw that some polish female vocalists were mentioned, three others that I like :
Marta Głowacka from ANAMOR
Agnieszka Dudek from ANKH and TURQUOISE
Katarzyna Jajko from TURQUOISE
Maja Konarska from MOONLIGHT
Anja Orthodox from CLOSTERKELLER and SVANN
And also women from other countries :
Loreto Chaparro from MATRAZ
Monika Edvardsen from ATROX

Right you are. I'm kinda glad she doesn't though. It's a piece best as an instrumental. The only prog song they ever did. I guess I should have mentioned she doesn't sing seeing how the point of this tread is female vocalist of prog. Lol. I'm a real winner sometimes I know ![]() |

Surprised that there has been no mention of the great Australian Heavy Prog band A Lonely Crowd. Originally fronted by Leah Ceff, who just past halfway through the recording of their album User Hostile was replaced by Xen Pow. They kept all of the original recordings with Leah so Xen just recorded what was left. They're both great vocalists and the album is fantastic.

Lana Lane is a superb singer, and her other half (Erik Norlander) is a superb keyboard player, who both plays on and produces her solo albums. She sings lead in her eponymous band, has sung backing vocals for Erik's band 'Rocket Scientists', and also guest sung on Ayreon and Erik Norlander solo albums.Sadly though, she is not in the archives...despite having been suggested three times, with opinion pretty well split down the middle on each occasion.
She was actually evaluated for Prog Metal about two years ago: http://progfreak.com/Lana-Lane-104960.html?path=pa/recent, and Karl (bonnek) seemed in favour of adding her, but unfortunately none of the rest of the team at that time shared his view. Her music spans several musical styles from jazz-related pieces (eg. on Ballad Collections, Winter Sessions) to power ballads (Love is an Illusion, Queen of the Ocean) and progressive metal anthems (Secrets of Astrology, Lady Macbeth, etc.). Her influences are stated to include Ann Wilson of Heart, Ian Gillan of Deep Purple, Glenn Hughes, Joe Lynn Turner, Tony Bennett, and Chris Cornell...so I guess that's six times not prog...but I would pesonally love to see her added on here. It ain't gonna happen, I know...but she is pure class - period!!

I've tried to get into Lana Lane, she should be right up my alley, since I love bands like Nightwish, Within Temptation, etc........but I just don't care for the music. Just one of those things I guess.
