Touchstone were mentioned in the list of female-fronted prog bands posted quite early in this thread, but no mention since. They played at the Robin 2 in Bilston UK - just up the road from me - about a month or so ago, and someone has posted a couple of vids from the gig on YouTube. Here's one of them:
Kim Seviour is the vocalist.

Their previous (1998) studio album 'Science of Coincidence' is good too - also featuring Tracy Hitchings on vocals. Before that they had male vocalists (notably the excellent Damian Wilson). If you want a real treat, get the 2006 DVD 'Turbulence - Live in Poland' with Tracy at the helm: The version of their epic song 'Lighthouse' on there is brilliant.

le Dimanche: Colour Of Shade (Netherlands-2009). Very good post-rock music, with the bassist of The Gathering. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=TFfDK0t7URM Edited by PhideauxFan - November 15 2012 at 02:48 |

Well aren't you kind. Thanks so much for this recommendation. From the 2 tracks you sent me I can already tell that they are more musically diverse than LACUNA COIL. I've really been into the Dark Gothic Progressive metal scene lately because of my long time favourites SAVIOUR MACHINE, KAMELOT, NIN and THE CURE. anyway, thank you and I will explore this band, EVENOIRE further |

If not, they are from Italy too, and their female singer has a pretty cool voice. She also plays the flute. I've heard them labeled "gothic folk metal", but they have quite a progressive edge in their stuff as well with some offbeat time signatures and room for good instrumentation. They're pretty new, and I dig them alot, more than most of the gothic metal scene these days. "Misleading Paradise" and "Minstrel Of Dolomites" are especially good, but their whole Vitriol album is essential if you want some fresh Italian accented goth metal in your collection.

Omg what a sin!!! LISA GERRARD is brilliant. DEAD CAN DANCE are one of my favourite prog art rock bands right now. ANASTASIS simply blew me away! GERRARD is amazing on the track KIKO. |

I see no mention of Lisa Gerrard from Dead Can Dance, or Michelle Young from early Glass Hammer.

I've tried to get into Lana Lane, she should be right up my alley, since I love bands like Nightwish, Within Temptation, etc........but I just don't care for the music. Just one of those things I guess.

Lana Lane is a superb singer, and her other half (Erik Norlander) is a superb keyboard player, who both plays on and produces her solo albums. She sings lead in her eponymous band, has sung backing vocals for Erik's band 'Rocket Scientists', and also guest sung on Ayreon and Erik Norlander solo albums.Sadly though, she is not in the archives...despite having been suggested three times, with opinion pretty well split down the middle on each occasion.
She was actually evaluated for Prog Metal about two years ago: http://progfreak.com/Lana-Lane-104960.html?path=pa/recent, and Karl (bonnek) seemed in favour of adding her, but unfortunately none of the rest of the team at that time shared his view. Her music spans several musical styles from jazz-related pieces (eg. on Ballad Collections, Winter Sessions) to power ballads (Love is an Illusion, Queen of the Ocean) and progressive metal anthems (Secrets of Astrology, Lady Macbeth, etc.). Her influences are stated to include Ann Wilson of Heart, Ian Gillan of Deep Purple, Glenn Hughes, Joe Lynn Turner, Tony Bennett, and Chris Cornell...so I guess that's six times not prog...but I would pesonally love to see her added on here. It ain't gonna happen, I know...but she is pure class - period!!

Beat me to it. I like this one a lot. Underrated. They slipped off the face of the planet...where are you, Laura Basla?

Surprised that there has been no mention of the great Australian Heavy Prog band A Lonely Crowd. Originally fronted by Leah Ceff, who just past halfway through the recording of their album User Hostile was replaced by Xen Pow. They kept all of the original recordings with Leah so Xen just recorded what was left. They're both great vocalists and the album is fantastic.

Right you are. I'm kinda glad she doesn't though. It's a piece best as an instrumental. The only prog song they ever did. I guess I should have mentioned she doesn't sing seeing how the point of this tread is female vocalist of prog. Lol. I'm a real winner sometimes I know |
